Restaked as Lynx cl 1-40 (80819) in Aug/61 and surrounded by Dome cl 1-200 (82865) in May/62 by Cross Bow Mines Ltd and sold to Mayo Silver Mines Ltd, which performed bulldozer trenching, mapping and geochemical sampling in 1963 and 1964.
Restaked as Lynx cl 1-40 (Y57896) in May/72 by J.B. O'Neill, and as CJ cl 1-200 (YA42532) in Sep/80 by Canada Tungsten Mining Corporation Ltd. Canada Tungsten carried out a cursory examination of the showing in 1981.
Restaked within Dub cl 1-1619 (YC11075) by StrataGold Corporation in Jan/2004. The company staked the claims as part of their overall purchase of the Dublin Gulch property (located approximately 10 km to the southwest) from Sterlite Gold Ltd in Oct/2004. No work has yet been carried out on this occurrence.
Capsule Geology
The area is located northeast of Lynx Dome, near the headwaters of Lime Creek and is approximately 10 km northeast of the center point of the adjoining Dublin Gulch property. The area has not yet been remapped by the Yukon Geological Survey however C. Roots (1997) of the Geological Survey of Canada under contract with the Exploration and Geological Services Division (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) remapped topographic map sheet 105M located directly to the south in the mid-1990's. In 2003 Gordey and Makepeace released a geological compilation of the Yukon which covered this area. In addition various company geologists have mapped the adjoining Dublin Gulch area in detail.
Geological mapping carried out by Bema Industries Ltd for Canada Tungsten Mining Corporation Ltd in 1981 shows that the occurrence area is underlain by deformed Upper Proterozoic to Lower Cambrian clastic rocks of the Hyland Group. Although no large intrusions were mapped in the area, based on the geology of surrounding occurrences it is quite likely that one or more small granitic dykes or other intrusions cut the clastic sequence.
A pamphlet released by Mayo Silver Mines in Apr/64 reports that in 1962 the company dug a series of trenches on a silver-lead vein. The following year (1963) the company deepen the trenches an additional 1.5 m. Geological mapping showed that the mineralization died out at depth and was replaced by a shear zone. The company theorized that further mineralization could be discovered along strike.
Bema Industries paid a cursory visit to the occurrence in 1981 as part of a larger exploration program carried out on the adjoining Dublin Gulch property. Their map shows several trenches, a small shaft and adjoining tailings dump. According to field notes written by Bema, Mayo Silver Mines, mined out a small silver vein that graded up to 1 529 g/t silver, 46.3% lead, 22.0 % antimony and 16.8% zinc. The vein outcropped on CJ claims 12 and 14.
Previous soil sampling defined a 500 by 1600 m anomaly with over 30 ppb gold, 200 ppb arsenic and 30 ppb antimony. Historic drilling on Lynx identified a narrow sheeted vein zone within a small granodiorite stock. Drill hole 97-6 reported a grade of 2.8 g/t gold over 7.8 metres within the sedimentary rocks along the contact of the intrusion. Additional sampling of this sedimentary rock reported 0.79 g/t gold over 59.1 metres, with the lower 22.3 metres grading 1.23 g/t gold. The gold mineralization in drillhole 97-6 is hosted within gently dipping quartzite and phyllite of the Hyland group, which forms the footwall of the Robert service thrust fault.
Gold mineralization consists of narrow veinlets and fracture fillings of quartz, pyrite and arsenopyrite within the sedimentary package.
Ground geophysical field surveys were conducted in October of 2003 to define the extent of the mineralization in 97-6 and identify additional drill targets.
Drilling in 2004 intersected gold mineralization in sheeted and crosscutting quartz and quartz/calcite veins, with higher grades generally associated with arsenopyrite, pyrite, stibnite and sphalerite in veinlets. The best gold mineralization occurred within fractured and altered granodiorite.
Highlights of 2004 drilling include LX04-20 - 17.1 metres averaging 1.50 grams per tonne gold and LX04-11 -- 27.5 metres averaging 0.62 gram per tonne gold. Gold mineralization and veining were generally associated with brittle fault, shears and vein breccias with anomalous arsenic, bismuth, antimony and tungsten within fractured and altered granodiorite, with weaker but anomalous values in quartzite and occasionally quartz-rich phyllite rock units. The most highly mineralized veins are associated with steeply dipping west/northwest trending veins dipping steeply to the north.
