Note: The Lost Ace mineral occurrence was discovered as part of exploration efforts on the Justin property. Refer to MINFILE 105H 045 for the detailed work history on the Justin property prior to 2017 when Aben Resources Ltd. discovered the Lost Ace.
The Lost Ace was discovered during the 2017 exploration program approximately 2 kilometers west of Aben’s POW (MINFILE 105H 104) zone where past drill results indicate potential for bulk-tonnage gold mineralization with intercepts reported ranging from trace values to highs of 1.19 g/t Au over 60.0 m (including 2.47 g/t Au over 21.0 m) and 1.49 g/t Au over 46.4 m. Work completed during the 2017 exploration program by Aben included the collection of 21 channel and 3 chip samples from 4 trenches in addition to 13 rock samples, 2 silt samples, 1 bulk soil sample for gold grain analysis and 380 soil samples with coverage totaling 16.8 line-km focusing on the Lost Ace and Confluence (MINFILE 105H 106) zones.
In 2018, Aben focused on the Lost Ace zone and completed in 2018 included the collection of 19 channel and 28 chip samples from 5 trenches, 16 rock samples, 7 till samples and 240 soil samples with coverage totaling 6.0 line-km.
Capsule Geology
The actual occurrence lies approximately 11 km east of the Nahanni Range Road which services North American Tungsten Corporation Ltd’s Cantung tungsten mine which is located approximately 30 km to the north. The area lies within the Selwyn Mountains and is underlain by a sequence of Selwyn Basin stratigraphy composed primarily of shallow marine shelf and off-shelf sedimentary rock derived from the ancient North American Platform.
The occurrence area is underlain by a broad package of west-northwest trending, north-northeast dipping coarse grained clastic sediments, siltstones, pyllitic shale, limestone and calcareous siltstone and shale of the Upper Proterozoic to Lower Cambrian Hyland Group. Eagle Plains Resources/Aben Resources have broken the Hyland Group rocks into three subunits, which based on previous work are tentatively assign to the Neoproterozoic Yusezyu Formation. To the north, a northwest-southeast trending fault separates the Hyland Group rocks from a thin to medium bedded limestone unit assigned to the Cambrian to Ordovician Rabbitkettle Formation. Two periods of compressional deformation are recorded in the rocks and the package is bounded to the north and south by inferred lateral to oblique-slip faults in the Sprogge and Dayo Creek valleys. Mid-Cretaceous age quartz monzonite and quartz-biotite monzonite dykes and related veining associated with stocks of the Tombstone Plutonic suite have intruded tensional features related to the inferred faulting.
The Norquest Joint Venture originally discovered copper mineralization consisting of sparsely disseminated chalcopyrite accompanied by fine-grained pyrrhotite in several irregular pods of pyroxene skarn. This discovery area (occurrence location) was later named the Main zone. Grab samples assayed up to 0.46% copper and 0.34 g/t gold.
The Lost Ace is described as a quartz vein stockwork zone which are currently interpreted to be interpreted to be orogenic-style mineralization. In 2017, four trenches were completed in the Lost Ace zone. TR17-004 returned 1.44 g/T Au over 5.00 m true thickness, including 2.11 g/T Au over 3.85 m true thickness and 4.77 g/T Au over 1.0 m. The gold-bearing vein system occurs in the hanging wall of a contact zone between a coarse grained gritty sandstone and phyllite.
In 2018 further trenching from the Lost Ace zone reported: 20.8 grams/tonne (g/t) gold (Au) over 4.4 m, including 88.2 g/t gold (Au) over 1.0 m (from TR18-001); TR18-003 returned 0.9 g/t gold (Au) over 1.0 m while three grab samples from a large quartz boulder excavated from the contact zone returned 7.3 g/t Au, 3.9 g/t gold and 4.6 g/t gold respectively; TR18-003 was completed as an extension to TR17-004 which returned 4.7 g/t gold (Au) over 1.0 m. This particular trend of quartz stockwork veining has now been exposed over 8.0 meters.
