Work History
Staked as Lorraine cl 1-6 (Y97229) in Feb/75, Fat cl 1 (Y98236) and City cl 1 (Y98237) in Jul/75 by Baroid of Canada Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and geochemical sampling in 1975 and 1976 and added Kam cl 3-6 (YA6471) in Aug/76. Cominco Ltd staked Hess cl 1-8 (YA6595) in Sep/76 and Hess cl 9-24 (YA14783) in Dec/76 to the north and south, carried out geological mapping and geochemical sampling in 1977 and staked Hess cl 25-48 (YA15339) to the east and west in Jul/77. Cominco carried out additional geological mapping and geochemical sampling in 1978, hand trenching in 1981 and drilled one hole (105.5 m) in 1983 on claim Hess 61.
The Kam claims were restaked as Gevi cl 1-4 (YA77736) in Jul/85 by Baroid of Canada Ltd and as Cathy cl 1-16 (YB03918) in Mar/91 by R. Stack. In Jun/91, Phelps Dodge Corporation of Canada Ltd staked Sel cl 1-21 (YB03980) and Sel cl 22-81 (YB18001) contiguously across the northern boundary of the remaining Hess claims.
Restaked as Walt cl 35-77 (YC00207) in Nov/97 by NDU Resources Ltd, which staked Walt cl 1-34 (YC00173) to the east at the same time to surround J. Coyne¿s Cathy claims (Minfile Occurrence #105O 021). In Mar/98, NDU merged with United Keno Hill Mines Ltd. Expatriate Resources Ltd carried out geological mapping, grid soil geochemical sampling and hand trenching of the claims later that year under an option agreement with NDU which transferred to United Keno Hill. In Sep/98 Expatriate staked Walt cl 78-81 (YC01581) contiguously to the north and in Oct/98 the company purchased a 100% interest in the claims from United Keno Hill.
Capsule Geology
Bedded barite, witherite and calcite zones up to 100 m thick occur discontinuously within faulted slices of Devonian and Mississippian Earn Group shale over a strike length of 6 km. The Earn Group has been thrust over Ordovician to Silurian Road River Formation sediments. The sedimentary rocks are cut by dykes of basalt and porphyritic rhyolite 5-20 m thick.
Cominco outlined several soil anomalies and found minor pyrite, sphalerite, galena mineralization associated with two of the barite occurrences. The best sample returned 3.0% Pb, 2.2% Zn, 83 ppm Ag and less than 0.1% Cu.
The 1983 drillhole intersected three zones of barite and witherite with traces of lead and zinc, interbedded with cherty mudstone.
Expatriate¿s sampling and trenching in 1998 defined four main areas of highly anomalous zinc occurring over 8 km of strike length across the property, all within the Portrait Lake Formation of the Early to Middle Devonian Lower Earn Group. Two of these areas are proximally related to this occurrence: Area 1 is located 2 km west of location marker 022B and Area 2 is centered around location marker 022C. The other two areas occur further to the east and are part of Minfile Occurrence #105O 021.
All of the areas are found within the Portrait Lake Formation of the Early to Middle Devonian Lower Earn Group. Soil sampling returned peak geochemical values of 2.33% Zn, >10 000 ppm Ba, 962 ppm As, 2 240 ppm Pb and 587 ppm Cu. Chip sampling of the trenches returned peak values of 11.4% Zn, >10 000 ppm Ba and 4 130 ppm Ni. The high Zn and Ni values were returned from weathered barium carbonate rich rock and are attributed to smithsonite, as no obvious sulfide mineralization was detected during trenching.
