Work History
Staked as Scot cl 1-24 (Y14044) by Atlas Explorations Ltd in Sep/67 for the Hess Project (Atlas Explorations Ltd, Quebec Cartier Mining Company and Phillips Brothers (Canada) Ltd) based on favourable results from a regional geochemical sampling program. Atlas carried out geological mapping, grid soil sampling, magnetometer and EM surveying of the claims in 1968; additional soil sampling and hand pitting in 1969; geological mapping, prospecting and geochemical sampling in 1970; a gravity survey in 1971; drilled 4 holes (426.7 m) in 1972; and staked Scot cl 25-50 (Y68372) in Jul/72. Control of the property later reverted to Atlas, which changed its name to Cima Resources Ltd in 1974, enlarged the property and performed linecutting in 1979.
Restaked as Scot cl 1-24 (YC00149) by NDU Resources Ltd in Dec/97, which merged with United Keno Hill Mines Ltd in the spring of 1998. Expatriate Resources Ltd carried out geochemical sampling of the claims later that year under a option agreement with NDU which transferred to United Keno Hill. In Oct/98, Expatriate purchased a 100% interest in the claims from United Keno Hill.
Capsule Geology
The claims cover a northwest-southeast trending, steeply dipping anticline which has exposed a core of Middle to Upper Silurian Road River Group argillite with minor shale and chert that is flanked to the north and south by overlying Devonian aged Earn Group shale and chert with minor limestone.
Soil sampling in 1968 located a hydromorphic zinc anomaly ranging from 5 000 to 35 600 ppm in an overburden-covered area 500 m wide and 730 m long coinicident with a 0.9 milligal gravity anomaly.
Drilling of the anomaly in 1972 intersected only unmineralized Road River shale, the more graphitic sections of which returned up to 4 800 ppm Zn. Atlas suggested that the source of the soil anomaly is probably pyritic Earn Group shale that occurs uphill. The only mineralization found on the property was a piece of tetrahedrite float in quartz vein material that assayed 2 290.2 g/t Ag.
Expatriate confirmed the presence of the anomalous zone with soil sampling in 1998 and five samples collected over 400 m across the zone returned an average of 2.22% Zn, some with unusally high Ni values up to 4 570 ppm.
