Work History

Staked as Bee, etc cl (16194) in Jul/26 by A. Chambers, who drifted 24.4 m in 1927-28. Restaked by Frank Taylor and C. Poli (Shanghai Yukon Pros. Synd) in Sep/48 as Shanghai cl 1-8 (59031), which were explored in 1950 with a 9.1 m shaft and 9.1 m of drifting, transferred in Feb/51 to J.P. Jones and examined in 1951 by Chica E & Dev CL. 
Partially restaked as Shanghai cl (62194) in Oct/51 by H. Colley and subsequently explored with more shallow shafts and adits in 1954-58. Later optioned in 1961 to A.E. Aho, who formed a new company, Silver Titan ML, to continue development. Development consisted of bulldozing and a short adit in 1963 by Titan Project JV (Noranda, Kerr Addison, Canex and Homestake Mg CL). 
In 1964-65, Silver Titan, financed by Peso Silver ML, explored the Shanghai Vein with 115.8 m of x-cut, 670.6 m of drifting, 48.8 m of raising and 14 holes (600.5 m), and added the Blue and Argent cl (83504). Silver Titan purchased a 90% interest from Peso in 1965 and in 1966-67 Silver Titan's claims were acquired by Cima ML, a subsidiary of Atlas EL. 
In 1972, B. Rich and D. Wallingham leased the property and attempted to high-grade underground. The property was partly restaked by Atlas in Sep/72 as Tex cl (Y68825) and as 224 CH cl (Y87340) adjoining to the northeast in Mar/74 and as Reuben cl (Y97213) on the showing in Feb/75 by United Keno Hill ML, which explored with bulldozer trenching in 1974, mapping and geochem surveys in 1974-75, and 52 holes (2115.3 m) on the Reuben group in 1976. 
A large block of 627 Zap cl (YA38459) was staked to the south in Mar/79 by Canada Tungsten Mg Corp L, which explored with reconnaissance silt, soil and lake bottom sampling in 1979-80 and airborne mag and EM surveys in 1981. Partially restaked as Laura cl (YA77322) by B. Stewart in Dec/83. 
Restaked Dec/92 as 6 Kow cl (YB29440) by B. Kreft, who stripped and trenched in Aug/93. Placer Dome Inc. tied on 178 Doug claims (YB29472) in Jan/93. 
Yankee Hat conducted gridded soil sampling on east and west grids on the Shanghai property and geological mapping in 2004.

Capsule Geology

The Shanghai vein is a strong, transverse type structure with many branches, cutting Late Proterozoic-Early Cambrian Hyland Group schist and Mississippian Keno Hill quartzite on the north limb of the McQuesten Anticline. Mineralization consists of considerable sphalerite and discontinuous lenses of galena and tetrahedrite. The best assays reported from more than 305 m of drifted vein are 51.8 m grading 37.0 g/t Ag, 0.4% Pb, 13.6% Zn and 0.5% Cu over an average width of 2.5 m, and 9.1 m grading 1182.8 g/t Ag, 8.2% Pb and 7.2% Zn across an average width of 1.5 m. 
The Shanghai vein occurs in the opposite limb of the anticline in which all of the Keno Hill veins are found and is a structural mirror image to the Keno Hill veins. That is, it has right-lateral movement, dips northwest instead of southeast, and cross faults show left-hand normal rather than right-hand normal movement.
