Work History
Staked in Sep/50 as Leo cl (59715) by H. Caley and J.H. Gerlitzki. Adjoining Regent cl (61062) staked in Oct/50 by Marcourt Nickel ML were transferred to Yukore ML, which hand trenched in 1951. Other fringe staking includes Argent cl (59869) by Packeno ML and Argent, etc cl (59933) by Klondike Keno ML and North Denison ML.
Packeno's interest was transferred to Yukeno ML in 1951 and North Denison changed its name to Cons Denison ML in 1954. The Leo group was sold in Sep/55 to United Keno Hill ML and optioned in Aug/56 to Mining Geophysics CL (Keevil Group), which carried out resistivity surveys and drilled 4 holes (255.4 m). United Keno explored by bulldozer trenching and diamond drilling in 1957-58.
The Argent group was restaked as KPO cl (80083) in Oct/56 by A.E. Aho and C. Poli and transferred to Petcal L in Aug/59. The adjoining AA cl (80982) were staked in Sep/61 by Silver Titan ML, which acquired the Leo & KPO cl in May/62. Exploration by Silver Titan in 1962 on all claims included EM surveys and 10 holes (746.8 m) with financing provided by the Titan Project JV (Noranda, Kerr Addison, Canex & Homestake Mg CL). Further exploration by Silver Titan in 1966 consisted of 12 801.6 m of overburden and diamond drilling.
In Sep/67, the Leo cl were owned 90% by Cima ML (a subsidiary of Atlas EL) and 10% by Peso Silver ML. United Keno restaked part of the KPO group as Buconjo cl (Y56474) in Dec/71, optioned the Leo and KPO groups and drilled 708 overburden holes (32 833.1 m) in 1972-76 to earn a 60% interest. Peso Silver changed its name to Rex Silver ML in 1979. United Keno drilled an additional 20 overburden holes (1050.0 m) in 1980.
A large block of 627 Zap cl (YA38459) was staked on the north side by Canada Tungsten Mg Corp L, which explored with reconnaissance silt, soil and lake bottom sampling in 1979-80 and airborne mag and EM surveys in 1981.
In Aug/94 United Keno Mines Ltd. staked the Raven 1 cl (YB43148). This claims appears to cover an expired Buconjo claim. Ron Holway drilled two reverse circulation holes (78 m total) on the John 2 cl (YB03898) located on Galena Creek 1.5 km south of the Leo claims. In Oct/95 T. Casten restaked the Raven 1 claim as Raven (YB65159).
Capsule Geology
The Gerlitzki Vein has been exposed on surface for some 150 m. It is a strong, transverse-type vein, up to 9.1 m wide, which cuts Mississippian Keno Hill quartzite and is weakly mineralized with galena, sphalerite and minor tetrahedrite. A grab sample of some of the better mineralization assayed 514.3 g/t, 6.5% Pb and 5.0% Zn. Drilling failed to locate significant mineralization.
The 1966 overburden drill program located several similar, strong vein faults to the southwest and the 1974-75 program located three veins with sphalerite and minor silver values.
