Work History

Staked as Mad cl 1-6 (84064) in Mar/65 by Canadian Superior Exploration Ltd and overstaked as L cl 1-10 (84254) a few days later by United Keno Hill Mines Ltd. The Mad claims were explored by prospecting and soil sampling in 1965.
Restaked as Mad cl 1-16 (Y55819) in Apr/71 by Bullion Mountain Mining Ltd as part of a large block of claims surrounding the Clark occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #106D 011) located 9 km to the northeast. Bullion Mountain changed its name to Northern Bullion (Keno) Ltd in 1976.
The occurrence now lies within Category A Lands of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun.

Capsule Geology

The occurrence area is located approximately 6 km northeast of Rambler Mountain on a ridge located in between the upper east and west branches of an unnamed creek (some topographic maps informally refer to it as Mad Creek) in north-central Yukon. The area was regionally mapped by L. Green (1972) of the Geological Survey of Canada in 1961 as part of a helicopter-supported party known as Operation Ogilvie. The creek was also sampled for heavy minerals at this time as part of the Geological Survey of Canada's Operation Keno (1964). C. Roots (1997) of the Geological Survey of Canada remapped topographic map sheet 105 M, located to the immediate south in the 1990's. In 2003 Gordey and Makepeace of the Geological Survey of Canada released a geological compilation which included this area.
Gordey and Makepeace extrapolated Roots geological mapping to produce their geological compilation of the occurrence area. According to their compilation the area is underlain by Middle to Late Devonian Earn Group carbonaceous metasediments and felsic metavolcanics which have been overlain to the south and west by Early Carboniferous Keno Hill Quartzite. Numerous Triassic age mafic intrusion intrude both units.
The occurrence marks the presumed centre point of a series of weak heavy metal stream sediment anomalies located by the Geological Survey of Canada's Operation Keno (1964). No assessment work records can be found for work carried out by Canadian Superior Exploration however the Northern Cordillera Mineral Inventory 1972 database, a predecessor to the Yukon Minfile database reports that soil sampling returned background response and no mineralization was found. The anomalies were likely caused by high zinc background values known to exist in the region. Bullion Mountain did not perform any work on their Mad claims and likely staked them to protect access into the Clark occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #106D 011) located 9 km to the northeast.
