Work History
Discovered by Canada Tungsten Mining Corporation Ltd in 1969 and staked as the Pukelman cl (Y65043) in Jul/71 in a joint venture with Standard Oil Company of BC Ltd. The showing was mapped and grid sampled later in the year.
The southwest side was restaked as Rain cl 1-30 (YA31503) in Aug/78 by A. Thom and the southeast side was restaked as Bee cl 1-16 (YA31794) in Sep/78 by D. Hutton. Canada Tungsten optioned the Rain (Minfile Occurrence #115P 012) and Bee groups, staked a large block of 852 CC cl (YA53321) between Sep/80 and Aug/81 to surround the occurrence and carried out property wide geological mapping and geochemical sampling of this area in 1981 before dropping the option on the Rain and Bee groups.
Restaked as Rum cl 1-90 (YA88956) in Apr/87 by R. Robertson & K. McCrory and optioned to M.E. Compu Software Inc which later changed its name to Gold Rite Mining Corporation. Gold Rite carried out soil geochemical sampling and limited prospecting in 1987 and staked 162 Rye cl (YB05624) to the east and north and Roll cl 1-48 (YB17773) further to the east in June and Sep/88 and carried out geochemical sampling, VLF-EM and magnetometer surveying, trenching and drilled 8 holes (1 236.6 m) in 1988 before dropping the option in the fall of 1990.
Noranda Exploration Company Ltd conducted two property examinations in 1990 and optioned the property in Feb/91. Noranda carried out machine trenching, geochemical sampling, magnetometer and IP surveying and road building during 1991. Noranda carried out reverse circulation drilling of 6 holes (644 m) in 1992 before dropping the option.
In Jan/92 Ivanhoe Goldfields Ltd restaked the northwestern Rye claims as Dum cl 1-34 (YB40487) and in late 1992 Ivanhoe optioned all of the Clear Creek claims including the Rye, Rum and Dum claims and carried out contour soil geochemical sampling across the claim block in Aug/93. In 1994, Ivanhoe was acquired by First Dynasty Mines Ltd.
In Jun/95 Kennecott Canada Inc optioned the Clear Creek area claims and carried out a large exploration program including reverse circulation drilling on the Rhosgobel stock to the south (Minfile Occurrenc #115P 012) and soil sampling, geological mapping, trenching and road building throughout the claim block. In Nov/95 Kennecott dropped its option.
New Millennium Mining Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of First Dynasty, took over as operator of the Clear Creek project in May/97 and carried out maching trenching 3 km to the north-northwest and soil geochemical sampling 4.5 km west-northwest of this occurrence location later in the year.
In 1998 Newmont Exploration Ltd acquired an option from New Millennium on the CC, Dum, Rain, Rum, Rye, Sleet, Wet and Wind claims, forming a contiguous block with the BZ cl 1-79 (YB94420), 7.5 km to the northwest, and Jo cl 1-70 (YB94499), 7.5 km to the northeast, which Newmont had staked in Aug/96. The company carried out geochemical rock and soil sampling and geological mapping across the northern third and the south-central part of the claim block in Jul/98. This was followed by airborne magnetic and radiometric geophysical surveying of the entire claim block and surrounding area in Aug/98.
In 1999 Redstar Resources Corporation entered an option agreement with Newmont to acquire an interest in their Clear Creek claim holdings. During June and Jul/99 Redstar carried out geological mapping and geochemical rock and soil sampling surrounding this occurrence and in the south-central and eastern portions of the Clear Creek claim group. Redstar drilled 2 holes (219.2 m) in Nov/99 and 9 holes (1 211 m) the following year on Sleet cl 18 and 20 (YB04273) 5 km to the southwest (Minfile Occurrence #115P 023). The company also carried out geochemical sampling in the western part of the claim group in 2000 and prospecting and geochemical rock sampling south of the Saddle Zone (approximately 2 km west of this occurrence location) in 2001. Redstar terminated it's option agreement on the Clear Creek property in 2002.
First Dynasty changed its name to Sterlite Gold Ltd in Jul/2002.
In Oct/2004, StrataGold Corporation entered into a binding agreement to acquire all of Sterlite's interest in the Clear Creek property. The agreement is subject to a satisfactory due diligence review by StrataGold and receipt of all required regulatory approvals.
Capsule Geology
Sheeted quartz-K feldspar veins containing scheelite, molybdenite and pyrite occur within a mid-Cretaceous stock of biotite-hornblende granite which intrudes metasedimentary rocks of the Late Proterozoic-Early Cambrian Hyland Group. The best developed vein system underlies an area about 150 x 150 m and grades less than 0.05% WO3. Some scheelite is also disseminated within the intrusion. Gold-bearing arsenopyrite, galena and scheelite occur in sheeted quartz veins and argillically altered stockwork zones peripheral to the stock. Specimens of vein material assay up to 45.0 g/t Au and 227.7 g/t Ag. Sampling along the ridge west of the occurrence in 2001, returned anomalous Au values (up to 470 ppb) from silicified and hornfelsed phyllite. Quartz breccia float containing disseminated pyyrhotite and collected in the upper part of the Clear Creek drainage, 3.2 km west of this occurrence location, returned 1 480 ppb Au with 752 ppm As.
The 1988 soil survey outlined two parallel, east-west anomalies (400 x 300 m and 300 x 200 m) with values over 500 ppb Au and as high as 4 220 ppb Au. Quartz porphyry float from the main (Saddle) zone contained pyrite and arsenopyrite and returned assays as high as 4 290 ppb Au. A large irregular-shaped anomaly on the southeast corner of the Pukelman grid is called the Contact zone. In the Contact zone, quartz-arsenopyrite float containing between 8.9 and 194.5 ppb Au was found near the intersection of a northeast-trending fault and a quartz porphyry dyke.
Goldrite's trench #3 tested a 3 780 ppb Au soil anomaly on the Contact zone, and exposed a fault zone and dyke striking 060°. A 1.0 m chip sample of manganese-stained quartzite with quartz-arsenopyrite veins contained 8740 ppb Au. Trench #5 tested a 3 357 ppb Au soil anomaly and returned values of 916 and 840 ppb Au across 1.0 m of oxidized sericite schist. Trench #6 tested a 1 626 ppb Au soil anomaly. Narrow quartz-arsenopyrite veins assayed up to 60.0 g/t Au. A 0.55 m chip sample of clay-altered biotite-feldspar porphyry contained 5 100 ppb Au.
The 1988 drillholes tested the Contact zone soil anomaly over a strike length of 250 m. Each hole intersected the same northeast-trending fault marked by limonite and gouge, and associated with bleaching, argillization, sericitization and silicification of the porphyry and metasedimentary wall rocks. Narrow stringers of quartz, arsenopyrite and pyrite occur in the fault zone, and arsenopyrite and pyrite are disseminated in the dyke. Intersections from the fault zone assayed up to 2.19 g/t Au over 3.55 m and 4.68 g/t Au over 1.80 m, with values as high as 8.60 g/t Au over 1.1 m in the immediate hanging wall. At the east end of the Contact zone, a quartz-arsenopyrite vein in the footwall assayed 1.01 g/t Au over 4.3 m.
Kennecott carried out geological mapping around the Eiger stock, located 1.5 km north of the Pukelman stock. A float sample of rusty quartz monzonite dyke containing minor quartz veining collected between the Eiger and Saddle stocks returned 355 ppb Au. The bulk of exploration work carried out in 1995 was carried out on other Minfile occurrences located within the Clear Creek claim group.
Soil sampling by New Millennium returned background levels for most elements with a few slightly elevated results for Au, As and Sb, while trenching revealed quartz monzonite and quartz monzonite dykes cutting finely laminated quartzites. Numerous anomalous values between 200 and 2 600 ppb Au were returned from sampling of Trench 97-4.
Newmont's sampling confirmed anomalous gold values reported by previous operators and outlined existing areas of anomalous gold and arsenic geochemistry. Magnetic data from the airborne survey defined dominant structural trends in the area and partially outlined some of the intrusive stocks in the area. Radiometric data suggests that the Pukelman, Saddle, Eiger and Josephine (Minfile Occurrence #115P 011) stocks are part of a single intrusive body.
Soil sampling by Redstar evaluated the eastern strike potential of the gold and arsenic soil geochemistry anomaly (Contact zone) in this area and extended it 1 km further to the east. Significant values for Au, together with moderately anomalous Sb and Bi values were returned.
