Work History

Originally staked as Jennie (495) in Jan/1899 by F.W. Dunham and surrounded in 1899-1901 by Snowbird (496), Eldorado Lode 2 (87A), Crown Point (4161), Enterprise (4144), Independence (4145), Jennifer (495) and Gold Coin (4422). The Jennie was relocated as Jennie (5179) in September, 1901 by W. Foster, who explored with shallow shafts and trenches until 1904. The area immediately north of the Jennie claim was staked as the Homestake (10757) and Louise (10780) in July, 1908. The Jennie was restaked as the Robin (10977) in July, 1909 and surrounded in 1909-1912 by the Lyda (11091), Shamrock (11094), Edinburough (1381), etc cl. The Eldorado Dome Quartz MCL, which held most of the claims in the vicinity of the Robin, was organized in 1909 to develop this and other lode targets on Lone Star Ridge.

Seven shallow shafts (maximum 12 m deep), numerous trenches and open cuts, and a 6 m adit were completed by 1925. Restaked as the Hope, etc cl (78766) in March, 1960 by Klondike Lode Gold ML which did limited bulldozer trenching in 1960 and 1961.

Restaked as DN cl (YA32946) by Klondike Ken Ventures Inc, which optioned the claims to Dawson Eldorado Gold EL in 1981. Dawson Eldorado carried out a photogrammetric survey in 1981 and did geological mapping and geochemical sampling in 1983-1984. In June, 1986, the property was optioned to Arbor Resources Inc., which explored with linecutting, magnetic and VLF-EM surveys in 1986 and airborne magnetic and soil surveys, grid geochemistry, EM and IP surveys and bulldozer trenching in 1987. One percussion hole was drilled in 1987. Faith ML optioned 50% of Arbor's interests in June, 1989. Arbor Resources drilled two more rotary holes in 1990.

In August, 1992 Kennecott Canada Inc. optioned the claims from Arbor Resources. In 1994, Kennecott carried out a reconnaissance of the entire Lone Star property (including the DN claims), including digitizing of previous data, geological mapping, rock sampling, trenching and backpack soil augering. Two diamond drill holes (397.6 m) were drilled on the Buckland Shear zone located 1 km to the southeast (MINFILE occurrence 115O 077).

Kennecott completed 1 line of backpack soil augering and collected several rock samples near the Robin Egg occurrence. In January, 1995 Kennecott terminated the option agreement. In January 1996, Arbor Resources Inc. changed its name to Klondike Gold Corp.

Regional & Property Geology

Locally gold-bearing quartz veins cut muscovite and quartz-muscovite schist (Psqm) of the Permian Klondike Schist Assemblage. Barren foliaform quartz veins are also abundant.

Newspaper accounts of the early workings on the Jennie claim reported that three distinct veins had been located and had yielded assays ranging from 0.05 to 5.13 g/t Au. MacLean examined one open cut on the Robin claim in 1912. He described a flat-lying quartz vein 40 cm thick, with limonite pseudomorphs after pyrite. Of four samples he collected from this vein, two contained 1.4 g/t Au while the other two gave no values. He also noted two narrow (5 to 8 cm) quartz stringers which "exhibited a number of good specimens with free gold, of crystalline character, in the quartz, while very fine gold was seen disseminated through the associated schist".

Mineralization & Results

A 5 m shaft was sunk in the bottom of this open cut later in the year by Eldorado Dome Co., and is reported to have intersected a quartz vein 2.4 m wide, dipping east and locally containing abundant visible gold. No assays are available from this material.

Bulk soil sampling by Klondike Lode Gold detected abundant gold particles in soil and colluvium on the immediate left limit of Oro Grande Gulch, but further work failed to locate the source. Mortensen (1992) reported coarse scheelite and barite grains from colluvial deposits near the Robin occurrence on Oro Grande Gulch, which are likely derived from the discordant quartz veins in the area.

Arbor's 1987 drill hole intersected 1.5 m grading 5.83 g/t Au. In 1989, placer mining exposed a stockwork of narrow quartz veins and pyrite lenses east of Eldorado Creek at the mouth of 27 Pup. A 3 m x 5 cm pyrite lens assayed 1714.4 g/t Au. One of Arbor's 1990 drill holes intersected 3.3 g/t Au over 3 m.

Kennecott's soil sampling returned no significant values. A rock sample collected from a quartz vein returned 185 ppb Au. A second rock sample collected from a quartz chlorite muscovite schist outcrop returned 240 ppb Au.
