Work History

Staked as Star cl (57901) in December, 1953 by S. Babler and optioned in January, 1961 by Klondike Lode Gold Mines Ltd., which added the Sol, etc cl (78911) and explored with bulldozer trenching in 1961 and 5 diamond drill holes (194 m) in 1962. Re-staked as Sul cl 1-32 (Y65433) in May, 1972 by R.G. Hilker for Sullivan and Rogers, who carried out mapping and soil geochemistry surveys later in the year and a small bulldozing program in 1973.

Re-staked as Dorado cl 1-12 (Y99937) in July, 1975 by G.R. Hilchey. Re-staked as Ron cl 1-40 (YA10300) in July, 1977 by G.J. McGinn and transferred in May, 1978 to Klon Exploration Company Ltd., which explored with mapping, VLF-EM and magnetics surveys and 3 diamond drill holes (331 m) in 1978-1979.

Klondike Ken Ventures Inc. tied on DN cl 1-4 (YA32783) in July, 1979, bulldozer trenched in 1980 and optioned the claims to Dawson Eldorado Gold Explorations Ltd. in 1981. Dawson Eldorado explored with geochemical sampling and rock sampling of nearby old workings in 1984. W. Hawkes tied on Hawk cl 1-139 (YA79989) to the west in July, 1984, performed geophysical surveys and trenching in 1984, and optioned the claims to Arbor Resources Inc., which explored with airborne and ground magnetics and geochemical surveys, trenching and 2 rotary holes (198 m) later that year. Arbor Resources performed mapping, trenching and magnetics, VLF-EM and soil geochemistry surveys in 1985 and geochemistry, geophysics, bulldozer trenching, rotary drilling and road construction in 1987.

Faith Mines Ltd. optioned 50% of Arbor's interests in June, 1989 and performed geochemical surveys and trenching later that year. Arbor conducted an IP survey and drilled two rotary holes in 1990. The DN, Hawk and Ron cl were transferred to Kennecott Canada Inc. in May, 1993 as part of an option agreement. In January, 1995 the DN, Ron and Hawk claims were transferred back to Arbor Resources Inc. In January, 1996 Arbor Resources Inc. re-organized and changed its name to Klondike Gold Corporation.

Capsule Geology

The area is underlain by strongly deformed, blocky weathering, quartz augen-bearing quartz-muscovite-chlorite schist (unit Psa) with isoclinal infolds or interlayers of muscovite-quartz schist and carbonaceous phyllite (unit Psqm). Isotopic age determinations (Mortensen, 1996) reveal a middle Permian crystallization age of 261 to 263 My for Psqm. A number of narrow, southwest-dipping shear zones cut the schist. The drill holes encountered hydrothermal alteration, including some quartz veining, pyrite and traces of galena, in the hanging wall of the fault. Low gold values were obtained in some of the quartz-rich sections, but core recovery was poor.

The 1987 surveys on the Hawk group outlined an extensive silver and base metal geochemical anomaly, but trenching and drilling produced disappointing results. In 1990, Arbor Resources obtained assays of 7.0 and 4.4 g/t Au from narrow quartz veinlets. Drillhole 90R47 intersected 9.1 m grading 1.1 g/t Au.
