Work History

Staked as Can cl 1-8 (Y4876) in Dec/69 as part of a larger block of 24 Nora (Y47354), 16 Lin (Y47346) and 16 Can (Y48876) claims (East Group). A second block of 28 Can (Y48884), 10 Tip (48836), and 23 Tin (Y48848) claims were staked 11.2 km to the west in Jan/70 (West Group). For unknown reasons the stakers used the same claim names and numbers when staking both groups thus individual claims cans can only be distinguished by their grant numbers. All of claims were transferred in Apr/70 to Acroll Oil and Gas Ltd. The company flew an aeromagnetic survey in November and Dec/70.

Restaked as part of a large block of claims including; A cl 1-54 (YB37009); B cl 1-47 (YB37063); C cl 1-46 (YB37110); D cl 1-64 (YB37156) and E cl 1-32 cl (YB37220) by Archer, Cathro & Associates (1981) Ltd in Sep/92 as part of fringe staking north of the Casino deposit (Minfile 115J 028).

Restaked within Coffee cl 2347-2846 (YD91501) in Sep/2010 by Kaminak Gold Corp. These claims make up part of the company’s larger Coffee property. In 2011 the company carried out ridge and spur soil sampling in the vicinity of this occurrence.

GEOLOGY

The area was reconnaissance mapped by D. Templeman-Kluit in 1974. S. In 1995, S. Johnston employed by the Yukon Geoscience Office (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) mapped topographic map sheets 115J 9 & 10 and 115I 12 located to the immediate south. Gordey and Makepeace (2003) released a geological compilation that covers this area. M. Colpron of the Yukon Geological Survey released a Tectonic Assemblage map which included this portion of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane in 2006. Colpron's stratigraphic units and age dates differ slightly from those used by Gordey and Makepeace because he is trying to work out terrane wide relationships.

Geologists employed by Kaminak Gold have not yet geologically mapped the area around this occurrence. Extrapolating data from various sources, it appears the occurrence is underlain by Devonian to Mississippian metamorphic rocks assigned to the Yukon-Tanana terrane. The southern portion of both claim groups is underlain by granite and granodiorite assigned to the mid-Cretaceous Dawson Batholith which intrudes the metamorphic rocks approximately 3 km to the south.

The occurrence location appears to mark the approximate center of the Acroll Oil and Gas’s East block of claims. The company flew the aeromagnetic survey in an attempt to refine the results of an earlier Geological Survey of Canada geophysical survey. Although the survey outlined the contacts between various rock units, it failed to outline any potential structures.

The A, B, C, D and E claims appear to have been staked to protect access and possible infrastructure sites for the Casino deposit located approximately 5 km to the south (Minfile Occurrence115J 028 . The claims lapsed in Mar/99.

Kaminak Gold carried out the ridge and spur soil sampling program in conjunction with a larger grid based soil sampling program centered over the “Sugar Area” located approximately 10.5 km to the northwest. No geochemical anomalies were detected in the immediate area surrounding this occurrence. However a 71 ppm gold in soil spot anomaly was detected 1.75 km to the northwest and a 157 ppm gold in soil spot anomaly was detected 4.25 km to the north. Kaminak Gold plans to investigate these anomalies further in 2012.
