Work History

Staked as Vegas cl 1-36 (Y39083) in Oct/69 and cl 37-44 (Y49967) in Feb/70 by Atlas Explorations Ltd. In Jul/70 the company carried out geological mapping, ground magnetics, soil sampling and stream sediment sampling programs over the central and northwest portions of the claim group.

In Nov/2009 Kaminak Gold Corp staked Coffee cl 783-865 (YC85591) and cl 866-894 (YC93271) 2 km to the west as part of their larger Coffee property (Minfile Occurrences #115J 110, 111 etc.)

In early Feb/2010 Hinterland Metals Inc staked Ex cl 5-8 (YD19586) and cl 19-23 (YD19600) 3 km and 0.5 km north of this occurrence.

Staked within Coffee cl 1327-1423 (YD13598) in mid-Feb/2010 by Kaminak Gold. Although these Coffee claims possess lower claim grant numbers than the EX claims, Whitehorse Mining Recorder records indicate that the EX claims were staked and registerd before the Coffee claims. Thus the Ex claims take precedence over the Coffee claims.

In Jan/2011 Hinterland Metals announced their intension to spin off their various gold properties (including the Ex claims), into a new company, Stakeholder Gold Corp. The plan was approved by shareholders in Jun/2011.

As of Sep/2011 neither Stakeholder Gold or Kaminak Gold has carried out any work around this occurrence. Stakeholder Gold renewed their claims by paying in lieu and Kaminak Gold used assessment work carried out elsewhere on the Coffee property to renew their claims.

GEOLOGY

The area was reconnaissance mapped by D. Templeman-Kluit in 1974. Since that time various geologists have mapped near this area but no one in recent times has mapped the occurrence area in detail. Gordey and Makepeace (2003) released a geological compilation that covered this area. M. Colpron of the Yukon Geological Survey released a Tectonic Assemblage map which included this portion of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane in 2006. Colpron's stratigraphic units and age dates differ slightly from those used by Gordey and Makepeace because he is trying to work out terrane wide relationships.

In general the area is underlain by a sequence of shallowly to moderately south to southwest-dipping Paleozoic metamorphic rocks assigned to the Yukon-Tanana terrane that are intruded by the Cretaceous Coffee Creek granite along a west to northwest-trending contact.

Based on geological mapping completed by Altlas Explorations and by Kaminak Gold’s on their Coffee Main and Coffee West occurrences (Minfile Occurrences #115J 110 and 111) located 5 km to the northeast, the occurrence is underlain by a sequence of Devonian to Mississippian amphibolite, orthogneiss and marble that is intruded along a west to northwest-trending contact by a mid to Late Cretaceous equigranular granite. Both the metamorphic and intrusive rocks are cut by intermediate to felsic dykes of unknown age.

The original Vegas claims were staked to cover a large east-west trending magnetic anomaly outlined by an airborne geophysical survey completed by the Geological Survey of Canada between Oct/65 and Apr/66. The occurrence location marks the approximate center point of the this magnetic anomaly. Follow-up ground magnetic surveys conducted by Atlas Exploration in 1970 outlined 3 strong magnetic anomalies in the range of 1 500 to 2 000 gammas that corresponded with the anomaly detected earlier by the Geological Survey of Canada. The anomaly closely follows the contact between the Paleozoic metamorphic rocks and the Cretaceous intrusion.

Geological mapping carried out by Atlas Explorations outlined numerous large dacite and other felsic dykes intruding the Paleozoic rocks parallel and sub-parallel to the granite contact. Geologists noted disseminated pyrite-pyrrhotite-magnetite mineralization in and adjacent to several dykes on the property. Magnetite veinlets were also observed in Paleozoic rocks in contact with the Coffee Creek intrusion. Soil sampling outlined sporadic, weakly anomalous copper response in the vicinity of the mineralized dyke but no copper or other significant mineralization was found.

Kaminak Gold’s exploration efforts have not yet reached this particular portion of the Coffee property.
