WORK HISTORY
Staked as Lady cl 1-96 (Y46940) in Dec/69 by Saxison Mining and Development Ltd. No work appears to have been carried out on the claims.
Restaked within Coffee cl 2125-2346 (YD89255) in Aug/2010 by Kaminak Gold Corp. The claims are part of the company’s larger Coffee property. In 2010 Kaminak Gold carried out ridge and spur soil sampling in the vicinity of this occurrence.
GEOLOGY
The area was reconnaissance mapped by D. Templeman-Kluit in 1974. Since that time various geologists have mapped near this area but no one has directly mapped the occurrence area in detail. Gordey and Makepeace (2003) released a geological compilation that covered this area. M. Colpron of the Yukon Geological Survey released a Tectonic Assemblage map which included this portion of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane in 2006. Colpron's stratigraphic units and age dates differ slightly from those used by Gordey and Makepeace because he is trying to work out terrane wide relationships.
The occurrence is located approximately 15 km southeast of the main Coffee occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #115J 110), in an area Kaminak Gold has not yet geologically mapped in detail. Based on geological descriptions reported by Gordey, Colpron and work completed by Kaminak geologists to the north, the occurrence is underlain by Devonian to Mississippian metamorphic rocks assigned to the Yukon-Tanana terrane. Approximately 1.5 km to the north and south the metamorphic rocks are intruded by the mid-Cretaceous Dawson Range batholith. The batholith is likely cut by one or more younger dacite dykes which occur throughout the region.
A serach of assessment and other records failed to locate any information about Saxison Mining’s exploration activities. The Geological Survey of Canada flew an aeromagnetic survey over the area between Oct/65 and Apr/66. It appears the occurrence location marks the approximate center point of a magnetic low flanked by two magnetic highs. The magnetic highs appear to mark the boundaries of the Dawson Batholith.
Ridge and spur soil sampling completed in 2010 by Kaminak Gold did not detect any significant soil anomalies.
