Capsule

Work History

Staked as Lad cl (Y57435) in Mar-Aug/72 by Cypress Resources Ltd staked as Elk cl (YA14479) in Nov/76 by Mountaineer Mines Ltd and optioned to Pan Ocean Oil Ltd, which explored with mapping and geochem surveys in 1977 and 1978, radiometric and VLF-EM surveys in 1979, and hand trenching in 1980. Mountaineer changed its name to Canadian Mineral Corporation in 1979 and Pan Ocean's interest was transferred to Aberford Resources Ltd in 1982.
In Oct/94 D & J Hajek restaked the showing within the Key cl 1-38 (YB43466). The Hajeks also staked the Bloom cl 1-38 (YB43576) to the northwest at the same time. In Feb/95 the Hajeks transferred the Bloom and Key claims to West Lake Ltd which carried out a trenching and prospecting program later in the summer.

Capsule Geology

The region is underlain by a metamorphosed and altered sequence of Early Proterozoic Wernecke Supergroup clastic and carbonate rocks (Fairchild Lake Group, Quartet Group and Gillespie Lake Group, from oldest to youngest) that are intruded by Early to Middle Proterozoic mafic sills and dykes, and cut by Middle Proterozoic Wernecke Breccia. To the east and south, Wernecke Supergroup rocks are unconformably overlain by Middle Proterozoic Pinguicula Group rocks. According to Thorkelson (2000), Wernecke Breccia development is best modeled as a set of hydrothermal and/or phreatic breccias; brecciation being caused by explosive expanson of volatile-rich fluids. Hunt (2005) attributed Wernecke Breccia formation to periodic over-pressuring of dominantly basinal fluids, which lead to repeated brecciation of host strata and mineral precipitation.
The occurrence is underlain by Fairchild Lake Group and Quartet Group argillite and dolostone. Narrow lenses and disseminations of chalcopyrite occur in at least four showings within the sedimentary units. Disseminated chalcopyrite and brannerite occur near the core of a 50 by 15 m Wernecke Breccia body.
A chip sample taken across a 1 by 0.6 m area of high radioactivity readings assayed 0.38% Cu and 0.012% U3O8.
