Work History
Staked as Etzel cl 1-32 (YA75992) in Sep/81 by Union Carbide Exploration Corporation, which explored with mapping and geochemical sampling in 1982.
Restaked as Fido cl 1-64 (YB64109) by B. Lueck in Jun/95. The claims were subsequently optioned to Yukon Gold Corp which carried out mapping and rock and soil sampling later in the summer. In Aug/96 Yukon Gold drilled 6 diamond drill holes within the intrusive. In Jun/97 the claims were optioned to Cyprus Canada Ltd which carried out a helicopter reconnaissance program later that year.
Capsule Geology
The claims cover an upper Cretaceous granodiorite stock cutting sedimentary and volcanic rocks ranging in age from Late Proterozoic to Mississippian. The stock is cut by two generations of quartz-sulphide veins. Hydrothermal alteration is associated with the younger set of veins. The veins contain minor amounts of pyrite, arsenopyrite, galena and sphalerite. A sample across a well mineralized, stibnite-bearing vein 7 cm across assayed 2.2% Zn, 1.22% Pb, 12.1 ppm Ag and 1.4 ppm Au.
Yukon Gold concentrated their exploration efforts within the intrusive. Soil sampling returned anomalous results (> 100 ppb Au) over a line distance of 1 100 m. Rock sampling of quartz veins containing pyrite, arsenopyrite, galena and stibnite returned up to 3.967 g/t Au over 10 m. Based on their 1995 results the company drilled a fence of 6 diamond drill holes in 1996 (footage unknown). The holes were collared near the northeast contact of the intrusion and were drilled to test the intrusive/sedimentary contact. The holes failed to intersect the contact due to a shallow dipping contact. The best result was hole 3 which returned 1.02 g/t Au over 13.6 m
Cyprus Canada collected 36 grab samples from in and around the intrusive/sediment contact. A 4 cm pyritic (30% pyrite, 2% galena) quartz vein in the granodiorite near the contact zone with hornfelsed sediments returned 12.84 g/t Au. Two other quartz veins in granodiorite returned 2.25 g/t Au and 1.15 g/t Au. Cyprus Canada concluded that the gold mineralization appears to be concentrated in rare, narrow sulphide veins and restricted zones of quartz veining in the intrusion close to the hornfels contact.
