Work History
Staked as Hill cl 1-32 and Rust cl (99509) in Feb/66 by Jacola Mines Ltd, which carried out airborne magnetometer and EM surveying later in the year. The claims were optioned in early 1967 by Hecla Mining Company of Canada Ltd, which carried out geological mapping, soil geochemical, ground magnetometer and IP surveying in 1967; gravity surveying in 1969; and drilled 4 holes (916.8 m) in 1970.
The neighbouring Cash cl 1-24 (94590) to the south were staked in Nov/65 by Slocan Ottawa Mines Ltd, which carried ground magnetometer and EM surveying in 1966 and were restaked by Hecla as Fubar cl 1-36 (Y20447) in Jul/67 and Heck cl 1-24 (Y25554) in Jul/68. Hecla carried out limited bulldozer trenching in 1973 and Turam surveying in 1975 in a joint venture with Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation.
The west end of the Rust group was restaked as Mabel cl 1-40 (Y92450) in Mar/75 by Vangorda Project (Welcome North Mines Ltd and Getty Mines Ltd), which carried out geological mapping, geochemical, magnetometer, EM and gravity surveying in 1975-76. The remainder of the Rust and Hill group were restaked in Oct/75 as Knob cl 1-43 (YA3826) by Knobby Lake Mines Ltd.
Restaked as RV cl 1-165 (YBI2498) in Dec/87 by Curragh Resources Inc, which acquired the adjoining Hecla claims to the south and carried out geological mapping in 1988 and 1989. In Nov/94 Anvil Range Mining Corporation acquired all claims owned by Curragh following the bankruptcy of the latter.
Anvil Range undertook a compilation study, between Aug/97 and Feb/98, to gather together all known geological data, including standardizing geological map units and accurately locating drill holes located within and surrounding their claim holdings. Only two reports, both of which cover claims assigned to this occurrence, were completed before Anvil Range encountered financial difficulties and terminated the project.
In Jan/98 Anvil Range filed for court protection in order to restructure the company. In Jan/99 Anvil Range¿s stock was delisted and the company entered bankruptcy proceedings.
Capsule Geology
The claims are underlain by schists and calc-silicate rocks of the Lower Cambrian Mount Mye formation, intruded to the north by the Cretaceous Anvil Batholith. Greenstone and marble lenses are common in both units and small pyroxenite bodies were reported. Two float samples found near the largest gravity anomaly on the Hecla claims, which assayed 3.0% Pb, 2.1% Zn and 192.0 g/t Ag, and 1.5% Pb, 0.8% Zn and 61.7 g/t Ag, were probably derived from veins.
The 1970 drilling intersected several skarn zones with visible pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite, galena and chalcopyrite. Reported assays for these intervals were low.
