Work History
Staked as Lee cl 1-40 (96733) by Flagstone Mines Ltd and adjoining Dick cl 1-48 (96285) by B.E. Nesbitt to the east in Dec/65. Airborne magnetometer and EM surveying was carried out over both claim groups in 1966. The Lee group was optioned between 1967 and 1970 by Anvil Mining Corporation Ltd, which carried out gravity and IP surveying and drilled 2 holes (465.4 m) in 1967 and one hole (68.6 m) in 1969.
Restaked as RV cl 1-165 (YB12498) in Dec/87 by Curragh Resources Inc, which carried out geological mapping in 1988 and 1989. In Nov/94 Anvil Range Mining Corporation acquired all claims owned by Curragh following the bankruptcy of the latter.
Anvil Range undertook a compilation study, between Aug/97 and Feb/98, to gather together all known geological data, including standardizing geological map units and accurately locating drill holes located within and surrounding their claim holdings. Only two reports, both of which cover claims assigned to this occurrence, were completed before Anvil Range encountered financial difficulties and terminated the project.
In Jan/98 Anvil Range filed for court protection in order to restructure the company. In Jan/99 Anvil Range¿s stock was delisted and the company entered bankruptcy proceedings.
Capsule Geology
The claims cover the contact between the Lower Cambrian Mount Mye formation and the Cambrian to Ordovician Vangorda formation on the south side of the Anvil Batholith, 6 km southeast of the Faro pit. The Faro area lead-zinc orebodies occur at or near this contact, which is marked by a transition from non-calcareous to calcareous metasedimentary rocks.
Mapping on the RV claims in 1989 showed that the Mount Mye formation encountered here consists of pelitic schist, with staurolite, garnet, andalusite and biotite. Sillimanite occurs in a narrow band adjacent to the Anvil Batholith. Calc-silicate schist and marble form a band about 150 m thick near the top of the Mount Mye.
The Vangorda formation on the RV claims consists of interbedded calc-silicate and pelitic schist. The calc-silicate schist contains diopside, tremolite, and minor wollastonite, vesuvianite, garnet and calcite. Thick metabasite units near the top of the Vangorda formation consist of pyroxenite and amphibolite that are interpreted as a composite gabbroic intrusion and produce a strong aeromagnetic anomaly on the west side of the claims.
Sulphide minerals and carbonaceous lithologies near the Mount Mye-Vangorda formation boundary appear to be lacking in this area. Previous drilling to a depth of 350 m failed to discover significant mineralization, although the 1969 drillhole intersected traces of chalcopyrite.
