Work History
Staked as Pete cl (Y84475) in Aug/75 by Ogilvie JV - C.L. Smith (Brinex L Mitsubishi Met Corp and Ventures West Capital L), which explored with mapping, geochemical sampling and EM and gravity surveys in 1975-77.
Part of the Brinex interest was transferred to A.M. & S. Can L (Conzinc Riotinto of Australia L) in 1977. In 1978, the property was explored with 5 holes (539.5m).
Capsule Geology
Two barite layers are interbedded with a sequence of metamorphosed siliceous and carbonaceous shale of the Devono-Mississippian Earn Group. The lower barite horizon consists of creamy white, saccharoidal barite, 1 to 2 metres thick. Approximately 60 m higher in the section, a similar barite horizon with a thickness of 1.5 to 5 m lies beneath a 0.6 to 1.5 m thick limestone bed. Minor mineralization consisting of hydrozincite, sphalerite, galena and pyrite occurs in the upper barite horizon. Grab samples assayed between 0.1% and 8.3% combined Pb-Zn. Core containing barite and disseminated sulphides assayed up to 42% Ba but returned low Pb and Zn values (0.01 to 0.11%).
