Work History

This area was extensively staked between Dec/72 and Apr/73 as part of the Summit Lake staking rush. Included in that staking were Bat and Dog cl (Y72172) of Sonesta Res L; Lad cl (Y71334) of Dasson Copper Corp L; Lad cl (Y71281) of Berminex Assoc JV (Serem, etc); Nat cl (Y71183) of Tay River ML; and Ice group, which was not transferred to a company. Most of these claims were explored to some degree with a combination of prospecting, mapping and geochem sampling although no assessment work was filed.
Restaked as 216 Abbey cl (YA20951) in Jul/77 by Itsi JV (Aquitaine, St Joseph & Union OL), which explored with grid soil sampling and mapping later in the year, an EM survey in 1978 and 1980, and 4 drill holes (624.5 m) in 1980.

Capsule Geology

The Abbey claims were staked to cover a west-dipping sequence of Road River Formation shale bounded by Cambro-Ordovician Rabbitkettle Formation limestone and Devono-Mississippian clastic rocks. This shale belt is poorly exposed along the floor of a valley for a length of 19.3 km.
The holes tested conductive zones on three widely-spaced drill sections and confirmed that the Howard's Pass Formation shale is present on the property. In lithology and thickness, the shale unit is similar to the shale which hosts the Anniv and XY deposits. Assays of up to 0.3% combined Pb-Zn were obtained from graphitic and siliceous mudstone in drill core.
