Work History
G. Dickson staked this target as part of a large group including Robert, Nulee, etc cl (YA94679) in May 1986 and performed prospecting, soil sampling and bedrock mapping over the claims between 1986 and 1988. The Montgomery occurrence was found in 1988 while prospecting placer trenches.
YES Exploration Syndicate and Olympic Resources Ltd. re-staked the area as Sun cl 1-191 in 2011.
In 2015, Strategic Metals Ltd. re-staked the Sun claims as Queen cl 1-121, including the Montgomery showing. Rockhaven Resources acquired the Queen claims from Strategic Metals later in 2015.
Regional & Property Geology
The occurrence is located in the Dawson Range within Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT). The rocks of the YTT in this region consist of Early Mississipian metamorphic rocks separated into meta-sedimentary and meta-igneous suites (Stroshein, 1998). The meta-sedimentary suite consists of micaceous quartz-feldspar gneiss, schist and quartzite of the Nasina Assemblage. The meta-igneous package is comprised of biotite-hornblende feldspar gneiss and coarse-grained granodiorite orthogneiss with lesser amphibolite.
The occurrence is underlain by the meta-igneous package, which includes biotite-hornblende feldspar gneiss and coarse-grained granodiorite orthogneiss with lesser amphibolite. Colpron (2014) assigned these rocks the Carboniferous Simpson Range (MgSR). The metamorphic rocks are cut by mid-Cretaceous quartz feldspar porphyry dykes belonging to the Mount Nansen Volcanic Suite.
Mineralization & Results
The Montgomery occurrence is a quartz-sulphide float anomaly that was found in 1988 while prospecting placer trenches. The float samples taken in 1988 consisted of grey, silicified andesite and quartz with up to 15% disseminated pyrite and trace to 1% fine-grained galena and arsenopyrite. The highest grade sample returned 15.67 g/t Au. Silver and arsenic values were also anomalous and ranged between 8.8 ppm to 132.5 ppm Ag and 2,723 ppm to 14,242 ppm As. The source of the float has not yet been discovered.
