Work History

First staked in July, 1922 as a group of 5 claims including Grace May cl (14668) by D. McKinnon and Panorama cl (14665) by D. Tolmie. R. Booth staked the Banshee cl (16321) a mile to the southeast in April, 1927 and added the Beaver (15244) and Monte Carlo cl (15262) in July, 1928 to the original group of 5 claims, which were explored by hand pitting.

In July, 2002 Rimfire Minerals Corporation conducted a cursory examination of this occurrence and the neighboring Silver Hill occurrence (MINFILE occurrence 106D 042) located 3.5 km to the north. The occurrence was unstaked at the time of the visit.

Re-staked in 2010 by ATAC Resources Ltd.

Regional & Property Geology

The occurrence area is located at the southern end of Carpenter Ridge, between Carpenter and Castle Creeks, approximately 35 km due north of McQuesten Lake. The area was regionally mapped by L. Green (1972) of the Geological Survey of Canada in 1961 as part of a helicopter-supported party known as Operation Ogilvie. C. Roots of the Geological Survey of Canada under contract with the Exploration and Geological Services Division (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) remapped adjoining topographic map sheets 106D/8 and 106D/7 (East half) in 1990 and topographic map sheet 105M (1997) in the mid-1990's. D. Thorkelson (2000), also under contract with Exploration and Geological Services Division, remapped topographic map sheet 106D/16 to the north as part of a larger bulletin. The work of these geologists was incorporated into a geological compilation of the Yukon released by Gordey and Makepeace of the Geological Survey of Canada in 2003.

Based on the work of these geologists it is believed that the occurrence area is underlain by Lower Proterozoic Gillespie Lake Group dolomite which has been intruded by Middle Proterozoic resistant dark weathering diorite and gabbro sills and dykes assigned to the Hart River Sills. The occurrence consists of galena and sphalerite mineralization occurring in massive sulphide veins, stockworks and breccia zones, cutting Gillespie Lake Group dolomite. The veins dip moderately and are interpreted by Abbott (1991) as Mississippi Valley-type replacement deposits of Proterozoic age, similar to the Blende deposit (MINFILE occurrence 106D 064) which lies 32 km to the east.

Mineralization & Results

A grab sample of mineralized float collected by Cockfield in 1924 assayed 300 g/t silver and 56% lead. Rimefire Resources (2003) reported finding 5 exposed hand trenches in an area of heavy talus of dolostone and diorite that did not obviously penetrate to solid bedrock. They described a mineralized zone hosted in dolostone within 10-15 m of the footwall contact of a diorite sill to the west. Replacement and breccia style galena (+/- sphalerite) mineralization occurs within strongly recrystallized sparry-granular dolostone (dolomite). Mineralization also contains ragged blebs of silica. Pisolites were noted in some of the adjacent dolomite float; a feature not seen elsewhere. Rock samples returned values up to 22.3% lead, 131.8 g/t silver, 1.5% zinc and 21 ppb gold. An isolated cobble of float similar in texture and found 700 m south of the pits returned 26.1% lead, 140.9 g/t silver, 0.7% zinc and 7 ppb gold.
