Work History

Staked as Loon cl (YA7060) in Sep/76 by Mountaineer ML, which performed mapping and reconnaissance radiometric surveys, added Wolf cl (YA14133) to the north in Nov/76 and optioned both groups to Pan Ocean OL, which explored with detailed mapping, geochem, radiometric and EM surveys and hand trenching and added 220 additional Loon claims in 1977. The property was further enlarged and explored with hand trenching and 101.5 m of drilling (2 holes) on the Loon 9 claim in 1978 and geochem and geophysical surveys in 1979. Mountaineer changed its name to Can Ml Corp in 1979. The Loon claims were transferred from Pan Ocean to Aberford Res L and to Abermin Corp in 1986.
Scylla Corp tied on B cl (YA17674) to the west in Feb/78 and performed airborne and ground radiometric surveys and hand trenching in 1978 and 1979. Cream Silver ML held a brief option in 1978.

Capsule Geology

The region is underlain by a metamorphosed and altered sequence of Early Proterozoic Wernecke Supergroup clastic and carbonate rocks (Fairchild Lake Group, Quartet Group and Gillespie Lake Group, from oldest to youngest) that are intruded by Early to Middle Proterozoic mafic sills and dykes, and cut by Middle Proterozoic Wernecke Breccia. According to Thorkelson (2000), Wernecke Breccia development is best modeled as a set of hydrothermal and/or phreatic breccias; brecciation being caused by explosive expanson of volatile-rich fluids. Hunt (2005) attributed Wernecke Breccia formation to periodic over-pressuring of dominantly basinal fluids, which lead to repeated brecciation of host strata and mineral precipitation.
Minor brannerite and traces of thorite and uranothorite occur with quartz-feldspar vein swarms in an east trending, bleached, hematitic shear zone 900 m long cutting Early Proterozoic Quartet Group argillite peripheral to a small Wernecke Breccia body. Hand trenching on the shear zone encountered minor secondary uranium mineralization, with assays ranging from 0.095 to 0.48% U3O8. A specimen of float from a 30 by 15 m area assayed 0.73% U3O8.
