Work History
Discovered by Atlas EL in 1970 during a reconnaissance geochemical program. First staked as Blue L cl (Y60676) in May/71 by G. Pearse and B. Metzger. In October, Canadian Occidental Pet. L staked 212 Bir cl (Y63106) immediately to the south following regional reconnaissance. The Bir and Blue L claims were explored by grid soil sampling and geological mapping in l972 and the Rib cl (Y67471) were added to the south in Nov/72 by Can. Occidental, and explored by grid soil sampling in 1973.
Capsule Geology
The Blue L claims cover an intrusive complex related to the Nisling Range alaskite. Rock types present include granodiorite, alaskite, quartz porphyry and two breccia pipes (about 3.2 km apart). These intrude Nisling Terrane metasedimentary rocks.
In the vicinity of the southern pipe, molybdenite occurs on dry fractures in quartz porphyry and chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite were found in schist nearby. The pipe cuts quartz porphyry and consists of fragments of felsite and porphyry in vuggy quartz.
Occidental reported minor molybdenite in quartz veins cutting a weakly altered granitic stock.
