Work History

Discovered in 1976, Texaco Canada Resources Ltd staked the Iota cl 1-22 (YA43419) 1 km south of the showing in Jan/93 (see Minfile occurrence #106C 014). Golden Unicorn Mining Corporation obtained a 85% interest in the claims in July/93.
In Oct/94 D & J Hajek staked the Iota cl 21 - 44 (YB43502) along the northern boundary of the original Iota claims. In Feb/95 Hyjek transferred the Iota claims to Westlake Ltd.

Capsule Geology

The claim area is underlain by Middle Proterozoic Pinguicula siliciclastic rocks. These rocks unconformably overlie Lower Proterozoic Wernecke Supergroup metasedimentary rocks (Fairchild Lake Group, Quartet Group and Gillespie Lake Group, from oldest to youngest) that occur to the west. Regional northwest-trending faults cut the area.
The showing (Laznicka's occurrence no. 19) consists of disseminated chalcopyrite in light green Middle Proterozoic Pinguicula shale. Mineralization is patchy and low grade.
A second copper occurrence (no. 20) 500 m to the south consists of minor chalcopyrite in thin, discontinuous siderite veins cutting Early Proterozoic dolomite of the Gillespie Lake Group. The two occurrences are separated by an unconformity.
