Work History

Staked Mar/66 as FL cl (Y2561) by Ventures Mining Ltd, which conducted geological mapping and a magnetic survey later in the year.
Restaked as Buzzer cl 1-28 (YB69058) in Oct/95 by Expatriate Resources Ltd, which carried out line cutting, geological mapping, soil sampling and a ground total magnetic field survey in 1996.
In Mar/96 Columbia Gold Mines Ltd staked Edy cl 1-24 (YB779950, Edy cl 111-112 (YB78019) and Dub cl 1-70 (YB78021) 3 km to the north. The company carried out line cutting followed by ground magnetic and HLEM geophysical surveys, soil sampling prospecting and reconnaissance geological mapping later in the year. This exploration work was carried out in conjunction with a larger exploration and diamond drill program carried out on the company¿s Kona deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 034) located approximately 15 km to the north. In Mar/97 Columbia Gold Mines staked Ember cl 1-56 (YB88808) on the east of the Edy and Dub claim block. During the summer of 1997, the company re-surveyed their grids using a GPS system and carried out minor exploration work.

Capsule Geology

The area is located in the Finlayson Lake district, approximately 11 km southeast of Fire Lake. The occurrence lies south of the area recently re-mapped by Murphy et al. (1999, 2001), of the Yukon Geology Program. However based on mapping results reported by Expatriate Resources and Columbia Gold Mines the following extrapulations are possible.
The occurrence is located at the contact between grey, slightly to moderately carbonaceous quartzite and medium to coarse crystalline muscovite +/- biotite granite. From Expatriate¿s description the quartzite likely belongs to the Upper Devonian to Lower Mississippian Fire Lake metavolcanic unit (unit DF), or one of Murphy¿s slightly older metasedimentary units. The granite is probably a Cretaceous age and belonging to Murphy¿s unit Kg.
Venture Mining previously delineated a large aeromagnetic anomaly over the occurrence. A small test ground total magnetic field survey conducted by Expatriate appears to have delineated a portion of the main anomaly. Soil sampling defined two weak to moderate Cu-Zn anomalies. The second anomaly returned strong Mo values. Both soil anomalies are located within the magnetic anomaly.
The Dub, Edy and Ember claims form one continuous claim block which Columbia Gold Mines named the Dub Grid. Most of the claim block is covered by deep overburden, however reconnaissance mapping appears to suggest that a long thin sequence of Upper Devonian and possibly older metavolcanic and metasedimentary rock underlies the central portion of the Dub Grid. The sequence is probably intruded on the east by metaplutonic rocks assigned to the Early Mississippian Simpson Range Plutonic Suite.
Columbia Gold Mines centered their grid over the Dub claims. Ground geophysics outlined a 3.2 km long EM conductor with associated magnetic high along the base line of the grid. Soil sampling outlined numerous isolated Cu, Co, and Zn coincident with the geophysical anomaly. Reconnaissance geological mapping uncover several float occurrences containing chalcopyrite mineralization but nothing in outcrop. The 1997 grid survey was carried out to better locate the geophysical and geochemical anomalies and to help plan future exploration. In May/99 Columbia Gold Mines Ltd re-organized and changed its name to Pacific Ridge Exploration Ltd.
