Work History

The presence of coal was noted by the GSC in 1959 but the occurrence was never staked. It lies within a large area withdrawn from staking in Jul/78 pending creation of a National Wilderness Park, settlement of native land claims, and development of a management plan for the Porcupine Caribou Herd.

Capsule Geology

One seam of anthracite about 1 m thick was located in Mississippian Kayak Formation clastic sedimentary rocks. No analyses have been reported.
