Work History

Staked as OD cl 19-34 (YA2530) in August, 1975 by Union Miniere Explorations and Mining Corporation Ltd (UMEX), which had earlier in July, 1975 staked OD cl 1-12 (YA2088) 2.5 km to the west and OD cl 13-18 (YA2298) 1.75 km to the east. UMEX together with Shell Canada Resources Ltd. formed the Blackstone Project and carried out contour geochemical soil sampling of OD cl 1-18 in August, 1975; grid geochemical soil sampling of the central portion of OD cl 19-34 from June to July, 1976; staked OD cl 35-46 (YA9466) to the south and carried out property wide geological mapping and prospecting in August, 1976; staked OD cl 47-78 contiguously to the west of the existing claims in October, 1976; and drilled 4 holes (331.6 m) on OD cl 27 and 39 in 1977.

In June, 1996, Blackstone Resources Limited carried out helicopter-borne magnetic and radiometric surveying over the Ogilvie Mountain breccia belts. This survey included coverage of the area surrounding this occurrence, although ground followup in this region was focused to the north and east on Blackstone's Monster claims (MINFILE occurrence 116B 102 and 103).

In 2007, S. Ryan performed geological mapping over the property.

Capsule Geology

This occurrence is underlain by an east-west trending, steeply south dipping package of Lower Proterozoic clastic sedimentary rocks. Shale, siltstone and carbonate rocks of the Quartet Group are overlain to the south by dolomite and shale of the Gillespie Group which host minor sphalerite, pyrite and galena mineralization that appears related to local fault structures. A large, northeast-southwest trending mafic dyke composed of diabase intrudes the sedimentary assemblages to the east of the occurrence location, with a smaller diabase occurrence located in the creek bed just north of the occurrence. The intrusive dykes which are Proterozoic or younger in age (Lane and Godwin, 1992) are completely barren and appear unrelated to the observed base metal mineralization.

Soil sampling carried out in three areas located in the vicinity of and to the east and west of the occurrence location, identified several roughly coincident, moderate to strong lead and zinc anomalies. Peak values of 2,050 ppm Zn and 1,240 ppm Pb were reported with values >300 ppm generally considered to be anomalous.

Several widespread occurrences of mineralization, represented by a variety of styles, were identified during prospecting and mapping. Sphalerite, lesser galena and traces of pyrite occur in dolomite along bedding planes and cross fractures and within and occasionally adjacent to brecciated dolomite as veins, fracture fillings and disseminations. A grab sample of the best mineralization, collected from an outcrop 1.25 km west of the occurrence location, assayed 1.09% Zn across 9.1 m. No significant mineralization was intersected during drilling in 1977.

The regional airborne geophysical survey outlined numerous northeast trending features which were interpreted to be faults.
