Work History
Conwest Exploration Company Ltd staked the north showing (occurrence B) as Rimrock cl (87938) in Oct/66 and carried out mapping and sampling in 1967. It was partially restaked as RN cl (Y37972) by Hart River Mines Ltd in Jul/69.
The Aussie Syndicate (Silver Standard Mines Ltd and Asarco Inc) staked both occurrences within Aussie cl 1-62 (Y90131) in Sep/74 and conducted mapping, geochem and rock sampling in 1974 and 1975.
Both occurrences were restaked as Lake cl 1-30 (YA53738) in Sep/80 by Anaconda Canada Exploration Ltd, which performed detailed mapping and sampling in 1981.
The two occurrences were restaked as part of Lorrie cl 1-81 (YB17909) in Sep/88 by Walhala Explorations Ltd, which staked Jamie cl 1-4 (YB17905) approximately 5 km to the southwest. The company completed short prospecting and geological mapping programs in 1988 and 1989.
In Jun/90, Walhala sold the Lorrie and Jamie claims to Tombstone Explorations Co. Ltd which prospected, mapped, soil sampled and added Lorrie cl 101-124 (YB31145) Jamie cl 5-215 (YB30680) in June and July1990. Placer Dome Inc optioned the property in 1991 and explored with geological mapping and geochemical sampling before relinquishing the option in Dec/91.
Noranda Exploration Co. Ltd tied on Cubb claims (YB38493) to the southeast in Oct/90.
In Oct and Nov/96 International Kodiak Resources Inc staked OB cl 1-568 (YC02987) and Wow cl 1-104 (YC04804) on the southern boundary of the remaining Lorrie and Jamie claims. The Wow claims encompassed the southern most occurrence (occurrence A). In Mar/98 the company added Pay Dirt cl 1-30 (YC06683) to the east. The company completed soil and silt sampling in 1997 and prospecting and rock sampling in 1998.
Capsule Geology
Gold, silver and copper occur in quartz-sulphide veins which cut Upper Cabrian and Ordovician, calcareous argillite assigned to the Rabbitkettle assemblage, near the margin of a small mid-Cretaceous syenite stock. There are two showings, north (occurrence B) and south (occurrence A).
The north vein contains pyrrhotite, pyrite, sphalerite, galena and chalcopyrite.
The south showing consists of several subparallel concordant veins averaging 0.6 to 0.9 m wide which have been traced for a length of 460 m. The veins dip 45 degrees, parallel to bedding, and strike west-northwest. They are well mineralized with (in decreasing order of abundance) pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, galena, sphalerite, jamesonite and chalcopyrite. The veins consist of a quartz-carbonate core surrounded by a sulphide envelope. Early chip samples averaged 2 to 10% Pb and 69 g/t Ag with minor values in the other metals. Three 1981 chip samples averaged approximately 350 g/t Ag, 5.7% Pb, 0.9% Zn, 0.2% Cu, 0.14% Sb and trace gold over 0.6 m for a length of about 100 m along one of the veins. Hornfelsed black argillite found in this area in 1990 contained stratabound galena and sphalerite which assayed up to 9.08% Pb, 11.8% Zn and 691.4 g/t Ag.
Placer Dome discovered a third mineralized area (Birdie and Bindie zones) about 1 km southeast of the south vein. This occurrence consists of quartz-sulphide lenses in a silicified, carbonatized shear zone in calc-silicate hornfels, which appears to be traceable beneath overburden for at least 3 km. Specimens of quartz-sulphide material from the Birdie zone contained up to 13.9 g/t Au. Samples of talus fines taken downhill from the Bindie zone returned numerous values in excess of 1000 ppb Au.
International Kodiak's exploration work was focused at relocating and re-sampling both the Rimrock south occurrence and the Birdie/Bindie zones. Grab samples of sulphide pod material from the Rimrock south occurrence (occurrence A) returned high values for silver of up to 229.5 ppm with accompanying high lead, zinc, arsenic and antimony. Quartz sulphide material from the Birdie/Bindis zon assayed as high as 1760 ppb Au. Elsewhere on the property, the company identified 4 areas of anomalous Au, As, Sb, Hg and Bi values. These areas were followed up with detailed grid soil sampling.
