Work History
Copper mineralization was found in the area as early as 1917. The Hoffman, Copper, Rae and Chalco cl (80001) were staked in Jun/56 and optioned to Asbestos Corp, which explored by prospecting and hand trenching. Restaked as part of Zebra cl 1-14 (Y6287) in May/66 by Callison Enterprises. The claims were optioned in 1967 to Ventures ML and Anglo Western Mls L which explored by soil sampling in 1967 and vended the claims to Hart River ML in Dec/67. Hart River explored with grid soil sampling, trenching and 14.9 m of packsack drilling in 5 holes in 1971.
Capsule Geology
The claims cover Lower Proterozoic sedimentary rocks intruded by diorite sills which are Middle Proterozoic in age. Asbestos Corp located several showings of chalcopyrite in veins and lenses in the area.
Minfile occurrence 116A 011 was originally named the Rae showing but was renamed the Zebra showing by Callison Enterprises in 1966. Asbestos Corp described the occurrence as a massive lens of chalcopyrite 45 cm wide and 4.6 m long. The lens is situated within a shear zone and has been traced for a approximately 30 m. The best surface assay returned 7.3% Cu and 120.0 g/t Ag over 2.1 m.
Callison Enterprises cleaned out and expanded the original trench and collected chip samples. Abbott (1997) visited the showing and described it as a vertical, north-trending quartz-carbonate vein containing erratically distributed clots of chalcopyrite. The vein is parallel to, and about 40 m east of a narrow mafic dike. Both vein and dike cut the Quartet Group and emanate from a thick west-trending mafic sill which is located about 70 m north of the nearest vein exposure. The vein is almost 2 m wide at it's northern end and gradually narrows to the south where it is exposed in a series of hand trenches over a strike length of about 200 m. The Quartet Group is altered and silicified for about 1 m on either side of the vein. A chip sample collected by Callison Enterprises across the north end of the vein is reported to have returned assays of 0.14 g/t Au, 249 g/t Ag and 6.85% Cu across 1.2 m.
Two packsack holes drilled by Hart River assayed 0.45% Cu and 3.4 g/t Ag over 4.6 m and 3.29% Cu and 6.9 g/t Ag over 2.0 m.
