Work History

First staked as the Dominion King (302), Basaltic (285), Eldorado Lode (282), Eldorado Spur (294), etc in September, 1899 - September, 1900 by T.W. Roach and others, who formed the Eldorado Quartz MC and explored with shallow shafts and trenches. Adjoining ground on the ridge crest between Upper Eldorado Creek and Gay Gulch was staked as Eldorado Reef (294), etc. cl in August, 1898, surveyed in 1901, and explored until 1902 with trenches, shallow shafts and a 10 m adit.

The Basaltic was re-staked as the Nadeau cl (15460) by L. Nadeau in June, 1929. Re-staked in October, 1979 as Oro cl (YA32781) and optioned to Dawson Eldorado Gold EL in 1981. Klondike Ken Ventures Inc. tied on the ND cl (YA49724) to the NW in May, 1980 and optioned the claims to Dawson Eldorado in 1981. Dawson Eldorado carried out geological mapping and geochemical sampling in the area in 1983-1984.

In June, 1986, the property was optioned to Arbor Resources Inc., which explored with linecutting, magnetics and VLF-EM surveys in 1986 and airborne magnetics and soil surveys, grid geochemistry, EM and IP geophysical surveys and bulldozer trenching in 1987.

Wealth Resources Ltd entered into a 50% option agreement with Arbor, and added Cal claims in May, 1991. The ND cl were optioned to Kennecott Canada Inc in May, 1993. In January, 1995 Kennecott returned the claims to Arbor Resources. Arbor Resources Inc. changed its name to Klondike Gold Mining Corporation in 1996.

Capsule Geology

Pale green, locally rusty weathering, muscovite and muscovite-quartz schist (Psqm) overlie quartz augen-bearing quartz muscovite schist (Psa) of the Klondike Schist Assemblage. The schist is deformed into northwest-trending, open to tight folds that are overturned to the northeast. A north-trending, nearly vertical, unfoliated, quartz-feldspar porphyry dyke from 30 to 40 m wide cuts the schist.

A gold-bearing quartz vein about 0.6 m wide was discovered in 1899 on the Basaltic claim. The vein was reported to trend northwest, dip at 45° (NE?) and to cut across the foliation in the schist. Early newspaper accounts report that a 27 kg sample of vein material from a 21 m shaft sunk on the vein in the bed of Upper Eldorado Creek returned an assay of 168.6 g/t Au. The strike of the vein is parallel to that of the quartz porphyry dyke, but the two are apparently unrelated. The vein was reported to have been traced southeast as far as Chief Gulch.
