Work History
The Homestake, Fortune, etc claims (12125) were staked near the junction of Bear Creek and Lindow Creek in Jul/11 by J. Nicholas.
Dawson Eldorado Gold Explorations Ltd staked Klot cl 1-8 (YA65663) to the north in Feb/83.
Restaked as Bea cl 1-16 (YA80654) in Jun/84 by a joint venture between United Keno Hill Mines Ltd & Falconbridge Ltd. The Dawson Syndicate staked Moon cl 1-55 (YA79671), Fish cl 1-24 (YA84476), Alpha cl A-P (YA79850), Alpha cl Q-T (YA84286), and Penibe cl 1-31 (YA84962) in the surrounding area in 1983 and 1984, and tied on Zip cl 1-40 (YA84428) to the west in Aug/84. In Feb/86 the Dawson Syndicate staked Comet cl 1-42 (YA87834) to the east and later in the year conducted magnetometer, VLF-EM, geochemical and geological mapping surveys over their various claim holdings. United Keno explored the Bea claims with trenching and geochemical sampling.
Avanti Minerals Ltd restaked the Klot claims as Ski cl 1-8 (YB23395) in Dec/88.
The Ski claims were restaked as Pod cl 1-8 (YB30095) in Apr/90 by Arbor Resources Ltd. In May/93 Arbor (now operator for the Dawson Syndicate) optioned the surviving Comet, Moon, Fish, Alpha, Zip and Penibe claims to Kennecott Canada Inc.
In Jun/93 Kennecott performed geological mapping on the Penibe claims. In 1994 Kennecott intended to follow up magnetic anomalies identified from various geophysical surveys flown over the Pod and surrounding claims. The company cut a grid but cancelled the remaining work after obtaining poor results on other optioned claims located in the area. In Jan/95 Kennecott cancelled its option. In Jan/96 Arbor Resources Inc changed its name to Klondike Gold Corp.
In Jun/99 Barramundi Gold Ltd surrounded the area around the occurrence with a large number of Klondike claims. In Jul/99 Barramundi optioned all of their Klondike region claims to KSL Exploration (Yulon) Ltd, a private Australian company. The occurrence was restaked as Bear cl 1-27 (YC20011) in Jun/2000 by Barramundi Gold. In Oct/2000 Barramundi changed its name to PacRim Resources Ltd.
In the summer of 2001, Klondike Source carried out a large Mobile Metal Ion (MMI) geochemical soil survey over the Klondike, Bear and other optioned claims in the area. One line of soil samples was collected over portions of the Bear claims. Klondike Source enlarged the MMI geochemical soil survey in 2002 but no sampling occurred near this occurrence. The company also reviewed regional airborne geophysical data obtained collected by Arbor and Kennecott and from a 2001 joint program funded by the Geological Survey of Canada and Yukon Geology Program.
Capsule Geology
The area is underlain by quartz and feldspar augen-bearing quartz-muscovite-chlorite schist (unit Psa) and overlying and/or interlayered rusty weathering muscovite and muscovite-quartz schist (unit Psqm). Carbonaceous quartz-muscovite schist occurs locally along the contact between the two units. The metamorphic rocks are deformed into tight, north-trending, second-phase folds. Quartz veins are abundant and are mainly foliaform metamorphic sweats.
At least 20 claims were staked in the area in 1911 following the discovery of gold-bearing quartz on the Fortune claim. A newspaper account reported assays of 26.4 g/t Au and 6.9 g/t Ag from a rock in which no gold was visible. Cairnes examined the occurrence in 1911 and observed quartz veins with pyrite and visible gold, some of which was quite crystalline. Crystalline gold is relatively common in placer deposits in Bear Creek and may be derived in part from this occurrence.
The occurrence area has received a cursory examination over the years by various claim holders but very little work appears to have been carried out on the actual occurrence. Old pits and shafts have been reported in the area most of which, if not all have collapsed into themselves. KSL Exploration's Mobile Metal Ion survey identified two small arsenic anomalies with isolated gold values about 1.5 km southwest and southeast of the occurrence. The review of geophysical data did not identify any structures in the vicinity of this occurrence.
