Staked as Ancient Mariner cl (Y89745) in August, 1974 by Dennis McCrae. Re-staked as Sul cl (YA80135) in June, 1984 by a joint venture between United Keno Hill Mines Ltd. and Falconbridge Ltd., which performed mapping, sampling and trenching in 1985, added RIJ cl (YA88064) to the east in June, 1986 and explored both groups with mapping, VLF-EM and geochemical surveys, and trenching in 1986.
Wealth Resources Ltd staked 192 Gulf claims (YB39274) 3.5 km to the southwest in 1990 and explored with reconnaissance mapping, soil sampling and a bulldozer cut. Poor exploration results led the company to allow the claims to lapse. In August, 1993, C. Little re-staked a portion of the Gulf claims as Flug cl 1-40 (YB45415) for Faith Mines and Calais Resources Ltd. (both companies are associated with Arbor Resources Ltd.). In June and July, 1994 Faith Mines carried out soil sampling, and magnetic/VLF- EM surveys over portions of the claims. In August, 1995 Faith Mines carried out a soil sample survey on Flug cl 33, 35 and 37, in the southeast corner of the claim group.
Re-staked as RR cl 59-70 (YC06085) by J.S. Christie in October, 1997.
Capsule Geology
The Sul claims are overburden-covered and probably underlain by gneissic granite (DMgdg?).
Soil sampling on the Gulf claims returned no anomalous values.
The Flug claims are underlain by quartzofeldspathic to mafic schist rocks. The quartzofeldspathic unit is described as buff weathering, well foliated muscovite-feldspar-quartz schist; the mafic material is light to medium green and buff weathering chlorite-quartz schist.
The soil samples collected at the north end of the claim group did not return any anomalous values. The geophysical survey over the central portion of the claim group returned mixed results. The magnetic survey did not return any anomalies, while the VLF-EM survey identified several sub-parallel north-south trending conductors within previously dredged area. The 1995 soil sample survey did not return any significant anomalies. Slightly elevated Cr and Ni values recorded in 4 samples collected on Flug cl 37, were interpreted to indicate a thrust fault mapped by Debicki (1985).
