Work History
Originally staked as the Little Alta (6710) and Mountaineer (6325) by J.H. Russell and J. Knox in June, 1903 and July, 1902, and explored by shallow shafts.
Re-staked as Jen cl (Y65548) in July, 1972 by Sullivan & Rogers and optioned to Conwest EL, which carried out mapping and geochemical sampling later in the year and bulldozer trenching in 1973.
R. Truswell re-staked the southeast side as Hardrock cl (YB17763) in September, 1988 and performed geophysical surveys in 1989. Truswell re-staked the Hardrock cl (YB40874) in June, 1992 and performed 24.3 m of drilling and minor bulldozer trenching and stripping. Truswell performed further trenching on the Hardrock cl in June, 1993. In May, 1994 Truswell carried out 1,681 cubic metres of trenching on Hardrock cl 15 (YB38797) which is located about 1 km southeast of anomaly. In August, 1995 Truswell carried out additional stripping on his claims. In December, 1995 Truswell filed assessment work for stripping on Hardrock cl (YB38770).
Re-staked September, 1990 as Quad cl (YB38886) by 8783 Yukon Ltd. W. Hawkes trenched on the Quad cl in September, 1991 and October, 1992. The Cal cl group 1 km to the west (YB30653) were transferred to Kennecott Canada Inc. in May, 1993. 8783 Yukon Ltd stripped and drilled on the Quad 76 etc. cl in September, 1993.
Feminique Apparel L staked Fox cl (YA88403) 3 km to the southwest in January, 1987 and performed churn drilling later in the year.
Hawkes added Golden Hawk (YB41974), OHawk cl (YB41846, YB45672) and Diamond Hawk claims in this area in June, September and October 1993. Hawkes carried out 19,631 cubic metres of trenching and road work on the OHawk claims in fall of 1993.
In March, 1994 R. Demarco staked the Tom-A-Hawk cl 1-50 (YB47927) 2.5 km southwest of the occurrence. Demarco carried out trenching and drilling on the Golden Hawk claims in November, 1994.
W. Hawkes apparently re-staked the occurrence as part of a block of WJR claims (non-consecutively numbered, lowest number = 1, YB67546) in October, 1995. At the same time, Truswell staked Hardrock cl 7-9 & 11 (YB67627) in the same general area. In June, 1996 Truswell carried out 4,291 cubic metres of stripping on Hardrock cl 18 (YB38797).
Capsule Geology
The area is underlain by quartz and feldspar augen-bearing quartz-muscovite schist (unit Psa) of the Permian Klondike Schist Assemblage. The schist unit is overlain by a small patch of hornblende-biotite-phyric andesite (unit lKva) and cut by a narrow 1200 -trending dyke of quartz-feldspar porphyry (unit eTqfp). A newspaper account in 1903 reported that a quartz vein at least 2.5 m wide had been discovered on the Little Alta claim. No assays are available from this occurrence.
The Jen claims were originally staked over an intense, isolated aeromagnetic anomaly. The aeromagnetic anomaly likely reflects the andesite, although float of a strongly magnetic, magnetite-bearing silicified schist was found in one bulldozer trench.
Soil sampling by Conwest detected scattered anomalous values of Cu, Ag, Pb and Mo in soils and a generally higher As background than is found elsewhere in the Klondike.
