Work History

Staked as New cl 1-4, (Y35946), cl 23-38 (Y35968), cl 55-70 (Y36000) and cl 89-102 (Y36034) for Newmar Explorations Ltd in Jul/69. The claims were explored by geological mapping, air photo interpretation and reconnaissance soil sampling and prospecting in 1970.

In Jan/94 Archer, Cathro and Associates (1981) Ltd staked J cl 1-40 (YB46605) either over or just west of showing.

S. Ryan staked Sugar cl 1-10 (YC95568) 1 km to the northwest in Jun/2009 and carried out a small soil sampling program later in the year.

In Aug/2010, Kaminak Gold Corp surrounded Ryan’s Sugar claims with Coffee cl 2125-2346 (YD89255). In Sep/2010 Kaminak Gold optioned the Sugar claims from Ryan as part of an earlier option agreement for the original Coffee claims (Minfile Occurrences #115J 110 and 111). In 2011 Kaminak Gold carried out ridge and spur soil sampling in the vicinity of this occurrence.

GEOLOGY

The area was reconnaissance mapped by D. Templeman-Kluit in 1974. In 1995, S. Johnston employed by the Yukon Geoscience Office (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) mapped topographic map sheets 115J 9 & 10 and 115I 12 located to the immediate south. Gordey and Makepeace (2003) of the Geological Survey of Canada released a geological compilation which covered this area. M. Colpron of the Yukon Geological Survey released a Tectonic Assemblage map which included this portion of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane in 2006. Colpron's stratigraphic units and age dates differ slightly from those used by Gordey and Makepeace because he is trying to work out terrane wide relationships.

Extrapolating Johnston's, Gordey and Makepeace's and Colpron’s mapping shows that the occurrence area is mainly underlain by biotite-hornblende granodiorite of the mid-Cretaceous Dawson Range Batholith. To the north and south the batholith intrudes Devonian to Mississippian age schist, quartzite and gneiss/orthogneiss of the Yukon Tanana Terrane. To the southeast the batholith is intruded by the Casino Plutonic Suite which is represented by fine- to medium-grained leucocratic granite, quartz monzonite and alaskite with associated aplite phases. The Casino Plutonic Suite was originally thought to be Late Cretaceous (70 Ma) but work by Selby et al., (1999) indicates that although the Casino Plutonic Suite intrudes the Dawson Range Batholith, its age is indistinguishable (104.2 +/- 0.5 Ma, U-Pb zircon). Late Cretaceous igneous activity produced a northwest-trending belt of small stocks, one of which, the Patton porphyry intrudes the Casino Plutonic Suite rocks, producing the copper-gold-molybdenum mineralization present at the Casino deposit (Minfile Occurrence #115J 028), located approximately 5 km to the southeast.

Geological mapping by Newmar Explorations outlined two lineaments, one trending north-south across the centre of the claim group and a second less prominent one trending southeast to the east of the first one. They were interpreted by the company to represent vertical faults. Soil sampling outlined a single station copper soil anomaly (475 ppm copper) in the southeast corner of New claim #24. The exact location of the anomaly is uncertain but assessment report # 060618 locates the anomaly on the west bank of Canadian Creek south of the two western branches where the main creek curves south.

The J claims appear to have been staked to protect access and possible infrastructure sites for the Casino deposit. The claims lapsed in Mar/99.

S. Ryan appears to have staked his Sugar claims overtop the main lineament.

Kaminak Gold informally refers to this part of their Coffee property as the “Sugar Area”. Spur and ridge soil sampling carried out in 2010 outlined the Sugar soil anomaly (Minfile Occurrence #115J 062), located approximately 6 km to the northwest. Follow-up grid based soil sampling carried out in 2011 further refined the anomaly into the “Sugar North” and”Sugar South” anomalies. Ridge and spur sampling completed around this occurrence in 2011 as part of the larger grid based sampling program on the Sugar anomalies, outlined 5 spot gold gold in soil anomalies greater than 100 ppm gold. The best spot anomaly returned 3 086 ppm gold approximately 3 km north of this occurrence (press release Oct 11/2011). A second spot anomaly of 71 pmm gold was returned 0.5 km north of this occurrence. In 2012 Kaminak Gold plans to grid soil sample the area around this occurrence.
