Work History

Staked as Moss cl 1-24 (Y38561) in Oct/69 by Steve Radvak and sold to Marguerite Lake Mines Ltd (formerly Tijana Mines Ltd). Optioned in Jun/70 to Nippon Mining of Canada Ltd, which conducted reconnaissance rock, silt and soil sampling and geological mapping in Aug/70.

Restaked within Coffee cl 1430-1714 (YD42501) in Feb/2010 by Kaminak Gold Corp. The claims are part of Kaminak Gold’s Coffee property which consists of 3 000+ claims and were staked to cover any potential mineralizing system that might be hosted within the property. In 2011 the company plans to prospect and reconnaissance soil sample this portion of the property.

GEOLOGY

The area was reconnaissance mapped by D. Templeman-Kluit in 1974. Since that time various geologists have mapped near this area but no one has directly mapped the occurrence area in detail. Gordey and Makepeace (2003) released a geological compilation that covered this area. M. Colpron of the Yukon Geological Survey released a Tectonic Assemblage map which included this portion of the Yukon-Tanana Terrane in 2006. Colpron's stratigraphic units and age dates differ slightly from those used by Gordey and Makepeace because he is trying to work out terrane wide relationships.

The Coffee property is underlain by a sequence of shallowly to moderately south to southwest-dipping Paleozoic metamorphic rocks that are assigned to The Yukon-Tanana terrane and are intruded by the Cretaceous Coffee Creek granite along a west to northwest-trending contact. Both the metamorphic and intrusive rocks are cut by intermediate to felsic dykes of unknown age.

Kaminak Gold has not yet mapped the area around this occurrence. Reconnaissance mapping carried out by Nippon Mining indicates the occurrence is underlain by Cretaceous granodiorite that is intruded by a northerly-trending band of fine to medium-grained quartz diorite ((?) likely dacite) containing occasional specks of pyrite. West of Excelsior Creek the granodiorite intrudes Paleozoic metasediments. No anomalies or mineralization were identified on the Moss claims.

Kaminak Gold has not yet released any results pertaining to the occurrence area.
