Work History
The earliest claims found for this property are Pete, etc cl (4530) in Mar/46, Good Hope cl (57269) in Aug/47 and Chief cl (57437) in Jul/48, staked by T.E. Noon and R.A. George for the North Star Prospectors Synd and acquired by Aishihik Mg & Dev CL in 1948. These were apparently restaked or fringed as Ann cl (57451) in Jul/48 and Don cl (57577) in Jun/49 by R.A. George, who put in some hand trenches and shallow shafts in 1948-50. P. Versluce tied on the Col cl (57440) in Jul/48 on the south side.
The showing was restaked as Pat, Toe and Molly cl (77620) in Feb-Mar/62 by H. Versluce and partners; as Moms cl (90531) in Jul/64 by Ruth M. Larson; and as Rube and Bobs cl (92253) in Jul-Aug/65 by R. Anderson and J. Murphy, who did some hand trenching in 1966-77.
Tie-on claims include Gem cl (Y20303) in Jul/67 by B. Murdoch, which were optioned in 1968 by R. Granger, who performed bulldozer trenching and drilled several short x-ray holes in 1969; and Pat cl (Y50194) in Feb/70 by M. Currie and R. Hasselburg. G. Leverman tied on the Moosehide cl (Y91139) in Sep/74.
Restaked as Gem cl (YA23721) in Sep/78 by G. Lattin, who trenched in 1979, and as Gem cl (YA52231) in Oct/80 by A. Thom, who drilled 3 holes (32.3 m) in 1981 before transferring the claims to E. Latin in Aug/83.
Capsule Geology
Disseminated chalcopyrite and molybdenite occur in skarn zones which are developed in marble lenses within quartz-mica gneiss of the Nisling Terrane, along the contact of a Cretaceous granodiorite intrusion. The main showing is associated with a feldspar-hornblende dyke.
Mineralization also occurs in quartz veins cutting both skarn and intrusive rocks. The name Giltana was originally applied in 1909 to occurrence 115H 018 (Janisiw) but the usage became confused when Hopkins and Giltana Lakes were later interchanged because of a map error.
