Staked as a single Jessie claim (Y76047) by D. Lalonde in Jul/73.
Capsule Geology
The occurrence is located on the east side of Snyder creek approximately 2 km up stream from its junction with Fourth of July Creek. The area was mapped in the 1960¿s by Muller (1967) of the Geological Survey of Canada. S. Israel (2004) of the Yukon Geological Survey published a geological compilation of southwest Yukon which covered this area.
The occurrence is likely underlain by metamorphic schists which geologists have assigned to undivided metamorphic assemblages, Proterozoic to Mesozoic in age. These rocks probably represent parts of various terranes. Given their uncertain origin the rocks are considered an overlap assemblage.
No assessment or other exploration records can be found for this occurrence. Small placer operations have continued intermittently in the area since Dawson Charlie discovered gold on Fourth of July Creek on July 4, 1903 (Muller p. 105). The area is accessible through a road which runs along Cultus Creek, up Fourth of July Creek and into the lower reaches of Snyder Creek. Thus the claim was likely staked for either subsistence mining or to protect surface rights.
