Work History
Noted by the GSC in 1962 but apparently not investigated until it was acquired by Cyprus Anvil Mg Corp in Jul/76 as Coal Exploration Licence #46 and mapped and sampled by Cyprus Anvil and the GSC in 1977.
Capsule Geology
Two coal seams are present in sandstone within the Upper Paleocene section of the Bonnet Plume Formation. The lower seam is 3.7 m thick and consists of thin bedded lignite with abundant wood and other plant fragments and a few thin light grey to white clay partings up to 1.3 cm. The upper seam is only 30 cm thick. The measured section includes many covered intervals.
Norris et al. (1993) estimated that more than one billion tonnes of lignite may underlie the northern half of the Bonnet Plume Basin.
