Work History
Acquired as Coal Licence #88 in Nov/77 by Pan Ocean Oil Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and drilled 2 holes (484 m) in 1980. The area was relicensed as #145 in Nov/80; and as CYM0015 by P. Wheelton in Dec/2001.
Capsule Geology
This deposit occurs on a low flat hill formed of resistant conglomerate of the Late Cretaceous Lower Bonnet Plume Formation on the west side which rests conformably on Cambrian sedimentary rocks on the east side. It forms a northwest-dipping monocline with dips varying from 25 to 35°. Two coal outcrops were mapped in gullies.
Both drillholes intersected the #1 and #2 seams, which averaged 2.6 m and 3.4 m thick, respectively. The lower seams have apparently shaled out in this area. In-situ reserves are 8 600 000 tonnes indicated and 5 550 000 tonnes inferred of high volatile, bituminous C non-coking coal.
