Work History
Staked as Rusty cl 1-8 (Y31385) and Lucky cl 1-8 (Y31393) in Sep/68 and as Bear cl 1-8 (Y32980) in Sep/69 by P. Van Bibber and L. Havranek, who trenched in 1969-72 and 1976-78. The Lucky and Bear claims were optioned in 1980 by Turner Energy & Resources Ltd, which performed bulldozer trenching in 1980 and 1986.
Fringe claims include Otter cl 1-8 (Y33057) in Nov/69 by M. Bursac; Jim cl 1-12 (Y68987) in Oct/72 by I. Ellis; Gray Copper cl 1-2 (YA1410) in Oct/75 by J. Strebchuk. P. Van Bibber tied on Fox cl 1-8 (YA15276) in Jun/77, Rex cl (1-6 YA40062) in Jun/79 and Ox cl 1-6 (YA41714) in Jun/80 and K. Hepner tied on Rafe cl 1-2 (YA76834) to the south in Oct/82. S. Stange tied on Fireweed cl 1-2 (YA77492) to the south in Mar/84, restaked them as Fireweed cl 1-2 (YB03861) in Sep/90 and trenched in 1991.
Capsule Geology
The area has not yet been remapped by the Yukon Geological Survey however C. Roots (1997) of the Geological Survey of Canada under contract with the Exploration and Geological Services Division (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) remapped topographic map sheet 105M located directly to the south in the mid-1990's. In addition Gordey, Abbott and Roots (1990) remapped topographic map sheets 105M/16, 106D/01 and 106D/07East & 08 respectively in the late 1980's. In 2003 Gordey and Makepeace released a geological compilation of the Yukon which covered this area.
According to Gordey and Makepeace the area is underlain by a sequence of Devonian to Mississippian metasedimentary rocks which have been deformed by metamorphism, folding, thrusting and other forces. Numerous Triassic gabbroic sills intrude the sequence. The occurrence is a north-striking, east-dipping vein zone cutting Earn Groupr schist and Triassic gabbroic sills. It is exposed for a length of 46 m on the Bear No. 5 claim. The vein varies from 0.9 to 6 m wide and contains minor tetrahedrite, chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite in a quartz-siderite gangue. Selected specimens returned assays up to 2 771.4 g/t silver and 2% lead. A composite grab sample across 3.7 m at the north of the exposure assayed 1 436.5 g/t silver, 0.7 g/t gold, 0.6% lead, 0.1% zinc and 0.6% copper. Grab samples from elsewhere on the vein assayed only 68.6 to 102.9 g/t silver. Trenching 457 m west on the Lucky 1 and 3 claims exposed evidence of similar veins. A grab sample from one of the trenches assayed 23.3 g/t silver, 0.3 g/t gold and less than 0.1% lead, zinc and copper.
