Work History

Staked as three single claims; Hillside, Surprise & Enterprise (14162) in Jul/21 by C. Coutts and J. McKinnon, who performed minor hand trenching.

Capsule Geology

The area has not yet been remapped by the Yukon Geological Survey however C. Roots (1997) of the Geological Survey of Canada under contract with the Exploration and Geological Services Division (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) remapped topographic map sheet 105M located directly to the south in the mid-1990's. In addition Gordey, Abbott and Roots (1990) remapped topographic map sheets 105M/16, 106D/01 and 106D/07East & 08 respectively in the late 1980's. In 2003 Gordey and Makepeace released a geological compilation of the Yukon which covered this area.
According to Gordey and Makepeace the area is underlain by a sequence of Devonian to Mississippian metasedimentary rocks which have been deformed by metamorphism, folding, thrusting and other forces. Numerous Triassic gabbroic sills intrude the sequence. The occurrence is located at the contact between Devonian to Mississippian metasedimentary rocks and a Triassic gabbroic sill. W.E. Cockfield visited the claims in 1921 and reported that on the Hillside claim there are two veins, both of which show float containing iron, manganese and lead minerals (likely galena). On the adjoining Surprise claim a wide band of float containing the same mineralogy as the Hillside claim apparently marks the location of another vein. The underlying rock type was not reported but based on surrounding veins likely consists of felsic (?) schist and or dark grey graphitic phyllite in contact with a altered (?) gabbroic sill.
There is no record of any samples being collected by government geologists and the results of privately collected samples has never been reported. However it is likely that the veins returned relatively high silver and lead values but did not possess significant strike or depth extension.
