Work History

Staked in Aug/20 as the Elsie, (13365), Dorothy Brown, Janet Agnes, Two Donalds, Victoria, Mary Bell and Glengarry claims by W.H. Forbes and 6 other associates, who explored with an 18 m adit in early 1921. Restaked by R.A. McCann in Dec/48 as Homestead cl (59166), which was transferred in Feb/51 to Whitemetal Yukon Mines Ltd.
Restaked as Stand-To cl (62356) in Jan/54 by McCann, who cleaned out 6.4 m of the adit.
Restaked as Davies cl 1-6 (80849), Olin cl 1-8, Albert cl 1-8, Al cl 9-14 and Al cl 17-25 (claim numbers unknown) in Aug/61 by J. Foley. Foley optioned the claims to Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp Ltd and Asbestos Corporation Ltd which mapped the property. Foley Silver Mines Ltd was formed in 1966 and it carried out extensive bulldozer trenching and 45.7 m of drifting in two short adits in 1967. The claims were optioned Jan/68-Aug/69 by Arrow Inter-America Corporation Ltd, which explored with 366 m of drifting and further bulldozing, after which Foley Silver did more bulldozing in 1971.
Extensive fringe staking included HH cl 1-16 (Y6558) in Mar/67 by Northair Mines Ltd to the south, which were soil sampled and mapped in 1967; Comet cl 1-16 (Y14548) of Comet-Krain Mining Corporation to the east in Apr/68; and Fouhu cl 1-48 (Y6579) in Mar/67 by J. Foley to the north, which were bulldozed annually from 1971 to 1981.
O. Hutton tied on TE cl 1-4 (YA43467) and DO cl 1-8 (YA43467) to the south in Jan/81, trenched in 1981 and 1987, and restaked the showing as TH cl 1-2 (YA83013) in Feb/86.

Capsule Geology

The area has not yet been remapped by the Yukon Geological Survey however C. Roots (1997) of the Geological Survey of Canada under contract with the Exploration and Geological Services Division (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) remapped topographic map sheet 105M located directly to the south in the mid-1990's. In addition Gordey, Abbott and Roots (1990) remapped topographic map sheets 105M/16, 106D/01 and 106D/07East & 08 respectively in the late 1980's. In 2003 Gordey and Makepeace released a geological compilation of the Yukon which covered this area.
According to Gordey and Makepeace the area is underlain by a sequence of Devonian to Mississippian metasedimentary rocks which have been deformed by metamorphism, folding, thrusting and other forces. Numerous Triassic gabbroic sills intrude the sequence. The occurrence occurs near the contact between Devonian to Carboniferous Earn Group rocks and Carboniferous age Keno Hill quartzite. The occurrence consists of a silver-lead vein which varies in width from 0.4 to 0.6 m and is mineralized with galena, calcite, siderite, cerussite, limonite, magnetite, chalcopyrite and quartz. The galena occurrs as bands from 2.5 cm to 15 cm wide in the other gangue minerals, and the chalcopyrite as small specks in the galena. The vein is formed in a weak, northeast-trending, steeply dipping extensional fault which brings dark grey graphitic phyllite and thinly bedded quartzite in contact with a gabbroic sill. According to D.C Findlay (Geological Survey of Canada Paper 69-55, p.13-14) selected sections of the vein returned up to 857 g/t silver, 26 % lead and trace amounts of gold and zinc. Other veins were discovered around the occurrence which returned similar grades but none possessed significant strike or depth extension.
