Work History
Staked within a total of 379 Cab claims ( Cab cl 5 = YB9133 (Yukon) Cab cl 1 = A56755 (NWT)) in Jul-Aug/74 by Arctic Red Joint Venture (Bethlehem Copper Corporation Ltd, DuPont Mineral Ventures Ltd, International Mogul Mines Ltd, Utah Mines Ltd and Welcome North Mines Ltd). The claim group extended east into the Northwest Territories. The Joint Venture carried out geological mapping and rock sampling and drilled 1 diamond drill hole (100.0 m) in 1974 and carried out additional geological mapping in 1977.
Capsule Geology
A series of north- to northeast-verging thrust faults superpose blocks of folded Upper Proterozoic to lower Paleozoic sedimentary rocks in the region.
Disseminated sphalerite occurs with minor galena and calcite in brecciated Lower Cambrian Sekwi Formation dolomite and has been traced in talus and scattered outcrops for a length of over 457 m. Some remobilized sphalerite fills fractures with barite and pyrite, forming gossans. Channel sampling of three separate mineralized horizons within a 30 m stratigraphic interval gave 3.9% Zn and 0.05% Pb over 6.7 m, 3.2% Zn and 0.01% Pb over 2.4 m and 13.1% Zn and 0.01% Pb over 1.5 m. Chip sampling of talus gave 14.8% Zn and 0.01% Pb across 30 m.
The drillhole failed to intersect mineralization. Other minor showings occur up to 1800 m along strike to the northwest.
