Exploration History

Staked as Leaf cl 1-39 (YA76992) in Jul/83 by AGIP Canada Ltd, which performed mapping and geochemical sampling later in the year. In 1988, AGIP changed its name to AGIP Resources Ltd.

Restaked as Nid cl 1-24 (YB44813) by B. Lueck in May/95. Lueck also staked YZ cl 1-4 (YB44840) 5 km to the east at the same time. The claims were subsequently sold to Yukon Gold Corp which carried out mapping and rock and soil sampling later in the summer. Sometime in 1997 Yukon Gold sold its interests to Alliance Pacific Gold which in turn optioned the claims in Jun/97 to Cyprus Canada Inc. Cyprus Canada carried out a helicopter reconnaissance program later that year. Cyprus Canada dropped its option in Jun/98 and returned the claims to Alliance Pacific Gold.

In 2010, Colorado Resources Ltd. re-staked the claims and conducted prospecting, rock and soil sampling the following year. The property was later vended to Fireweed Zinc Ltd and in 2021, Fireweed conducted prospecting, mapping and rock sampling.

Capsule Geology

The regional geology of the area consists of a series of Upper Cretaceous alkaline to calc-alkaline syenite to granite- quartz-monzonite plutons which intrude Devonian to Mississippian Earn Group sedimentary, basic volcanic and volcano-clastic rocks of the Selwyn Basin.

The Leaf and Nid claims cover a Upper Cretaceous medium grained, slightly porphyritic, hornblende-biotite quartz monzonite pluton which intrudes north-dipping Devonian black shale and green mudstone with minor chert, siltstone and limestone. The YZ claims cover a smaller Upper Cretaceous biotite granite to quartz monzonite stock which intrudes Devonian to Mississippian black shale, green argillite, chert and siliceous argillite. Both intrusions are surrounded by a large zone (up to 1 km wide) of gneissic hornfels where the country rock has been recrystallized and contains disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite. Several quartz-feldspar porphyry dikes cut the country rocks in both locations. This occurrence is related to Minfile Occurrence #105 049 located 1 km due east, and appears to cover a zone of mineralized hornfels whereas Minfile Occurrence 105O 049 covers an area containing gold bearing quartz veins.

AGIP reported a series of northwest-trending gold and arsenic anomalies associated with porphyry dykes and quartz veins that cut a hornfelsed sequence of shale, mudstone and chert near the margin of the quartz monzonite pluton. Quartz veins and stockworks with rare fluorite and arsenopyrite are usually associated with north to northeast-trending faults. The largest exposed vein (Minfile Occurrence #105O 049) measures 40 m long and 2 m wide. Geochemical values reach peaks of 335 ppb gold and over 1 000 ppm arsenic. A specimen of fault breccia assayed 0.54 g/t gold. Two thin arsenopyrite-quartz veins were noted cutting a porphyry dike on the claim block. A grab sample of one of the veins returned 8.3 g/t gold.

Yukon Gold spent 24 mandays exploring the two claim groups with the bulk of the work carried out on the YZ claim block. A rock sample collected from the intrusive located on the Nid claims near Minfile Occurrence #105O 049 returned 1.2 g/t gold and 215 ppm arsenic. Soil sampling carried out on the YZ claims returned 6 anomalous samples with the best returning 173 ppb gold and 1 463 ppm arsenic. The anomaly is centered over the northeast portion of the claim block.

Cyprus Canada carried out one day of helicopter supported prospecting in which 4 grab rock samples were collected west of the YZ claims. No anomalous gold values were found.
