Phelps Dodge CCL staked Cal cl (YB18061) in Jun/91. Noranda ECL tied on Gold cl (YB18620) in Aug/91. D. Sufday working for B. Lueck restaked the area as the Weas cl 1-62 (YB42994) in June/94. Lueck carried out geological mapping and reconnaissance soil and silt sampling later in the summer. In the fall of 1994 Lueck transferred the claims to APC Ventures Inc. In the summer of 1995 APC carried out further geological mapping and expanded the soil and silt sampling program.
In Feb/96 the Weas cl were optioned by Yukon Gold Corp, which carried out diamond drilling in the summer of 1996.
Cyprus Canada Inc surrounded the Weas claims with Cyp cl 1-41 (YB81035) in Aug/97.

Capsule Geology

The claim block is underlain by graphitic shale, carbonaceous shale, chert and quartzite of the Proterozoic Hyland Group and by Cretaceous porphyritic stocks and dykes of granodiorite and quartz-monzonite. The pluton is surrounded by pyritized hornfels up to 1 km wide. Fracture veinlets and sheeted veins which post date the intrusions form stockworks. Alteration, brecciation and veining are widespread. Veins and breccias are dominated by sulphide (pyrite, arsenopyrite, molybdenite) quartz and tourmaline and include minor galena, chalcopyrite and stibnite. Veining and brecciation has been observed in all rock units present in the claim block.
Soil sampling in 1994 outlined a strong gold and arsenic soil anomaly on the margin of the pluton. In 1995 rock sampling outlined porphyry hosted gold mineralization in an area designated the Ann Mark Zone. A 3 m chip sample collected from quartz veins in sericite altered diorite assayed 15.3 g/t Au 2.8 ppm Ag, 12 ppm Cu, >10 000 ppm As, 414 ppm Bi, 48 ppm Sb, 1 ppm Mo and 20 ppm W.
Yukon Gold drilled 5 holes across the center of the Ann Mark Zone in the summer of 1996 (footage figures not released). Anomalous but uneconomic gold mineralization occurs throughout the drill core in stockworks and sheeted veins of quartz-arsenopyrite-pyrrhotite. A 21 m intersection grading 1.01 g/t Au was encountered in sheeted quartz-arsenopyrite-bismuthinite veins located at the intrusive/sediment contact. Further drilling was recommended along the contact zone to evaluate the significance of this intersection.
