Work History
Staked as Peter, etc cl (YA76524) on the west in Jun/82 by N. Hennel and Nut cl 1-30 (YA76742) on the east in Sep/82 by a joint venture between Amax Northwest Mining Company Ltd and Canada Tungsten Mining Corporation Ltd, which carried geological mapping, trenching and geochemical sampling in 1982-1983 and an airborne magnetometer/EM survey in 1984. Hennel added Suza cl 1-5 (YA77794) and Moody cl 1-5 (YA77799) to the west in Oct/85 and carried out trenching in 1986.
Restaked as Hess cl 1-30 (YB64079) by B. Lueck in Jun/95.
Restaked as Nut cl 1-14 (YB98210) by Eagle Plains Resources Ltd in Sep/97. The company staked Nut cl 15-18 (YB98224) and Nut cl 19-22 (YB98228) 6 km to the east at the same time. In 1998 Eagle Plains carried out prospecting and geochemical sampling of the Nut cl 1-14.
Capsule Geology
Amax located three types of mineralization occuring in a contact breccia zone up to 100 m wide around a mid-Cretaceous biotite quartz-monzonite stock that is 400 m in diameter. The breccia is composed of calc-silicate fragments in a clastic matrix. Ordovician to Devonian (mostly) argillite and calcareous argillite wall rocks are hornfelsed up to 1 km from the intrusive contact. The different types of mineralization are as follows:
(1) Pyrrhotite-pyroxene skarn lenses up to several metres wide with accessory chalcopyrite, scheelite, galena and arsenopyrite occur in three areas.
(2) Quartz-sericite veins up to 12 cm wide, containing galena, arsenopyrite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite, occur near the margin of the stock.
(3) Galena is disseminated in the breccia.
The airborne survey identified a number of magnetic and resistivity features and conductive zones for which follow-up work was recommended. A galena vein was also found on Hennel's Moody property.
Resampling of the Amax trenches by Eagle River in 1998 focused on the gold potential of the property, specifically of the skarn type mineralization. Gold values as high as 10 g/t over 2 m and 1 025 ppb over 4.9 m with anomalous Cu, W and Bi values were returned from samples taken from several parallel north-trending pyroxene skarn zones occurring along the main north-south ridge south of the intrusive stock.
