Work History

Staked as Fan cl 3-14 (YA43751), cl 19-256 (YA43763), cl 257-468 (YA62202) and Fan cl 489 (YA64186) in Jun/81 by Amax of Canada Ltd, which conducted mapping and geochemical surveys in 1981 and 1982. The company added Fan cl 500-513 (YA76251) in Nov/81. In 1983, Amax transferred its interests in the area to Canamax Resources Inc.

Capsule Geology

* This occurrence is related to Minfile Occurrence #105O 061

The occurrence area covers a sequence of metasedimentary rocks ranging in age from Precambrian to Devonian. The oldest rocks are likely Precambrian to Cambrian phyllites informally known as the Grit Unit and assigned to the Hyland Group. The Hyland Group is overlain by Upper Cambrian to Ordovician shale, chert and siltstone of the Rabbitkettle Formation. The Rabbitkettle Formation is overlain by black shale, chert and limestone of the Ordovician to Lower Devonian Road River Group. The top of the sequence is capped by Lower Devonian to Mississippian Earn Group chert, shale and conglomerate. Most of the occurrence area is underlain by Earn group rocks.
The Fan claims cover a 23 km length of the north-central part of a Middle to Upper Devonian graben proposed by G. Abbott of the Department Indian And Northern Affairs (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey). Mineralization within the graben occurs at several stratigraphic levels in Upper Devonian shale, conglomerate and minor volcanic rocks of the Lower Earn Group on the nearby Tom (Minfile Occurrence #105O 001) and Jason (Minfile Occurrence # 105O 019) occurrences.
The 1981 exploration program identified pyrite-pyrrhotite beds in tuff, galena-sphalerite veins in volcanic breccia and a 10 km long baritic horizon associated with pyrite and chert. Soil chemistry outlined broad anomalies throughout the claim block. The occurrence location appears to mark the location of a lead (>16 ppm), silver (> 1.4 ppm) and barium (>1600 ppm) anomaly. The 1982 program collected soil samples from a northern and southern soil grid. The southern grid appears focused on discovering lead-zinc mineralization in volcanics while the northern grid was focused on outlining the barite horizon. Both programs outlined very broad multi-element anomalies but a crash in world metal prices at the end of 1982 lead to the curtaiment of exploration in the Macmillan Pass area.
