Work History
Staked as Gary cl 1-38 (Y84402) in Aug/74 by Ogilvie Joint Venture (C.L. Smith, Brinco Ltd, Mitsubishi Metal Corporation Ltd and Ventures West Capital Ltd), which carried out geochemical sampling in 1974 and geological mapping, grid geochemical soil sampling and gravity surveying in 1975.
In 1977 the joint venture carried out geological mapping, geochemical soil sampling and Maxmin EM surveying, before the Smith and Ventures West interests were assigned to Ogilvie Mineral Corporation Ltd and part of the Brinco interest was assigned to A.M. and S. Canada Ltd (Conzinc Riotinto of Australia).
Capsule Geology
Bedded barite is exposed in two showings (Gargantua and South Gargantua) that range from 3 to 18 m in thickness. The barite is light grey, finely interlaminated with argillite at the base of the Devonian to Mississippian Earn Group, and contains no visible sulphides. The estimated exposed reserves are 2 721 554 million tonnes of barite that is 70 to 80% pure, with 20 to 30% Fe2O3 and SiO2.

Tonnage is reported in Mineral Industry Report 1976, p. 116. Rowe (Assessment Report #061658) reports that the barite is 70- 80% pure, with 20-30% Fe2O3 and SiO2. Grade = minimum purity. Resource appears to be educated guess. |
