Work History
Old claim posts are present here but the staking records have not been located. Restaked as Barite cl (Y68355) in Jul/72 by A. Racicot and as Moose cl 1-4 (Y69660) in Aug/73 by Nuspar Resources Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and hand pitting in 1973, bulldozer trenching in 1974 and optioned the claims to Yukon Barite Ltd in 1976. Trenching was carried out by Yukon Barite Ltd in 1977 and Nuspar Resources Ltd in 1984.
C.L. Smith's Ogilvie Joint Venture (Brinco Ltd, Mitsubishi Metal Corporation Ltd and Ventures West Capital Ltd) surrounded the showing with the Gary cl 1-38 (Y96250) in Aug/74 and carried out geological mapping, geochemical sampling, gravity surveying and drilled 2 holes (109.1 m) south of the Moose showing in 1975 (Minfile Occurrence #105O 027).
Itsi Joint Venture (Aquitaine Compnay of Canada Ltd, St Joseph Exploration Ltd and Union Oil Ltd) added the Moonlight cl (YA6148) to the west in Aug/76 and carried out geological mapping, geochemical sampling and EM surveying in 1976-77 and surveying in 1981. J. Dodge tied on Spar cl (YB3037) to the north in Jun/89 and restaked the main showing as Lynx 1-4 cl (YB18301) in Jul/91. Dodge dug 7 test pits on the Lynx claims in 1992.
Archer, Cathro & Associates (1981) Ltd staked Dew cl (YB18305) 5 km to the southwest in Jul/91.
Capsule Geology
On the Moose claims, two conformable beds of finely laminated barite 25 to 50 m wide and 200 to 225 m long occur near the base of a shale unit in the Devonian to Mississippian Earn Group. The shale and barite immediately overlie chert pebble conglomerate. The zones dip steeply and one zone is exposed over a vertical interval of 61 m. Preliminary sampling indicated at least 2 721 554 million tonnes grading about 84% BaSO4 and 12 to 14% quartz which could be mined with minor waste removal.
A bed of black siliceous shale exposed on the Gary claims to the south lies stratigraphically above the Racicot barite occurrence and contains very finely disseminated, low-grade zinc mineralization.
