Work History

Original vein occurrence noted by GSC during mapping in 1984. Viceroy Exploration (Canada) Inc staked Bourya cl 1-24 (YC01187) 2.5 km to the northeast in Jun/98 and carried out geological mapping, prospecting and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling later that year. In Mar/99, NovaGold Resources Inc acquired 100% of Viceroy's interest in this and 21 other grassroots properties in the Yukon in exchange for 3.4 million common shares.

Capsule Geology

Barite veins cut hornfelsed Devonian to Mississippian Earn Group shales, phylllites and siltstones that are intruded by mid-Cretaceous aged porphyry dykes of the Tombstone Suite. Grab sampling by Viceroy, 2 km to the northwest, returned 8 160 ppm Zn and 1 010 ppm Cu from siltstone containing quartz-graphite veining.
A small biotite granite stock with associated quartz monzonite dykes intrude the sedimentary rocks, 2.5 km to the northeast, in the area previously stake as the Bourya claims. Sampling in 1998 by Viceroy focused on the gold potential of the area and identified weakly elevated gold values to 30 ppb, with 14 g/t Ag, 870 ppb Hg and 64 ppb Sb from grab samples of graphitic siltstone. Gossanous, pyrrhotitic sediments sampled 400 m east of the claim group returned 20 ppb Au over 1.5 m. Anomalous copper values of 1 385 and 1 395 ppm were also reported from silt samples collected at the northeast end of ridge underlying the now lapsed claim group.
